DmC's existence may help classic DMC (opinion)

There is still allot of controversy regarding DmC and it's radical take on the Devil May Cry franchise, but from what I've seen, this controversy put DMC back on the map, it is now generating interest in the classic series and the heated arguments are now generating curiosity in those new to the series, what is Devil May Cry and why is it loved to the point that people are so adamant in their hate for this reboot, other than the trolls and fanboys, they will see people with legitimate complaints and they will hear several words of praise for DMC. DmC brought several system changes that surpass the classic series, such as improved check points, a secret mission menu and some really stunning environments and more detailed storytelling. If a DMC5 came out at this point instead of DmC, the franchise wouldn't have this place in the spotlight, despite poor sales, DmC is talked about and as a result, Devil May Cry is well know again through this controversy, people are checking out the HD Collection and DMC4 and DmC has a very loyal following as well, even if it's hate, DmC gave people a new reason to be passionate about the franchise. Itsuno said that DmC is not a replacement but an expansion and I think it couldn't have come at a better time, if DMC5 comes out, there is no guarantee that it will be the DMC everyone wants, but it will be welcomed and it may reach sales expectations, thanks to all the publicity DmC gave the franchise, some may see it as a betrayal, but the classic series sold and this success may give birth to a DmC2. These are just opinions I've gathered through observation, I will not pass these off as facts, feel free to disagree and state your own opinion on this matter.

I agree, Even if DmC has "failed" I doubt that it will reduce the sales of the original series.
I think DmC selled quite well than thought. Isn't it just good business?

Indeed, DmC sold well as a game and it pleased critics. In the end, I think it generated interest in the franchise and made some money out of it.

I think this statement is very vague and not true. If you say that DmC controversy helped bring more attention to DMC serie:

1) Was DMC dying? Didn't DMC 4 sell over 2m? How is that dying? 1.1 What's better than a controversy fueled by hate? Well...a DMC that was improved upon.

2) The controversy was caused by the fans reactions. So you can erase "DmC brought attention", to "fans brought attention to DMC". Because fans reacted, the controversy was created. People didn't check out DmC out of curiosity for the game alone, but as to why fans disliked. So fans are the factor that made people take the step to check out DmC.

3) If DmC may help or has helped DMC serie, why 3.1) was the last DMC game 5 years ago(DMC 4) and 3.2) why has Capcom not announced DMC 5 still (It's been over a month since DmC release).

And overall DmC brought attention to itself, not to DMC. Therefor anyone playing DmC will want this game pushed forward and not DMC. According to this poll:
http://devilmaycry.org/community/threads/capcom-asks-you-to-choose-wich-game-gets-a-sequel.14198/

80 people choose DmC 2.
60 DMC 5.

which comes to point
4) DmC has made it's own fanbase (who has a interest conflict with DMC fanbase), and made fans of DMC to choose it over DMC.

I've seen pretty mixed reactions in regards to this. Just as many new fans to DmC I've met in real life have seen the original series as interesting or lame. It's not really changing opinions, just inviting more of the same. The good thing is that the new fans almost universally love DmC, so we have people getting more into this genre of games. Clearly, there's still room for games to evolve their narratives and bring us new experiences, and not all gamers undervalue these aspects of a game.

I don't know if all this attention will work in the franchise's favor in the long run. Publicity fueled by controversy tends to burn out very quickly and anticlimactically. What'll determine DMC (and DmC's) future is how many people actually like it for what it is, not how many people like to gossip about it for awhile. I love the series, but even with DmC's changes, it still seems pretty niche compared to other Western action games. I kind of doubt it has the DNA to change that without simply becoming something else entirely.
