Hey guys, new to the forum. I've been searching all over the 'net for this, but apparently the PC version of DMC4 has a debug mode. You can do all sorts of zany stuff in this mode apparently, one of which you can play as Dante through Nero's missions.

But I go friggin' idea how to do it. :(

Here's a video of a guy who activated it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_W3GyioIA4

It looks legit. But I want to know how he did it. He claims you just have to press all back 4 trigger buttons (if you're using an X360 controller) and/or the equivalent - he was using a Saitek - and it'll work, but it doesn't work for me. Judging by the music I hear int he background, it sounds like he's at a Mission Screen, but he didn't show how it was activated, just him moving around the menu.

If any of you guys know how to get this activated, I would LOVE it. That would make doing combo videos so much easier!

First things first, welcome to the forums!
Second, I'm not too sure myself.

I've heard very little about DMC4's debug mode and even less about how to enter it, a quick Google has confirmed what you have written already. All I can really suggest is trying the button combination on as many of the menu screens as possible. I would imaghine it has to be entered in the Options Menu, rather than the Mission Select screen.

Sorry I couldn't provide more help, let me know how you do! ^^

I hope this isn't a rule breaking necro-bump or anything.

But, we've been working on this mystery over at IW. :P Have currently discovered that only certain versions of the game have a debug mode enabled - that being the multi-8 version that was released in a only handful of countries and as part of a magazine campaign. This is why most people who bought the game on CD (and possibly on Steam) won't be able to get it to work.

But we're working on figuring out a way to mod it in. It's an active topic at InfernalWorks right now if you wanna talk about it or try and help work it out.

You can check it out here if you want.

I find it funny that the guy who made the video, even after repeated comments asking how to access it, hasn't made a video about how to access it. It's clear that he could, but he doesn't. >.>

If you have a version of the game that has it, all you gotta do is mash the bumper & trigger buttons on your controller simultaneously at any menu screen and the debug mode will pop up. But its only a select few game versions :/ This is the part he should of posted. People getting their hopes up when most don't have the version.

We still haven't managed to get it modded in yet. It looks like its going to take someone who is familiar with executable hacking. And that's not me. I've looked through the version's .exe and found the references but I'm gun shy of changing anything since I'm not sure how damaging a mistake would be.

Sorry for the bump but, thought folks might be interested:

We've done it!

It's a mod that can activate Debug Mode on MULTi6 (retail release) versions of the game for PC (this is why it wouldn't work for most folks - the debug mode was only able to be activated in the Multi9 version released in select countries). It has a few glitches, so this is still a team work-in-progress at the moment, but it is playable. You can be Dante in Nero's stages, among other things, but in order to fight bosses you must have cutscenes turned off via the switch in debug mode.

Hey Kittn. First off: Bravo! I'll make sure to write up about this tomorrow and link back to your forum with full credit to you and your team, of course.

This is the reason I love PC gaming: Modding, baby! Man, I feel so old... still feels like yesterday when I was ripping apart the old Red Alert 2 and Tiberium Sun .ini files... good old days!

Err... anyway, bravo!

Edit: I had a quick - and I mean extremely quick - skim through the thread as I'll be signing off to watch the remainder of a DVD in a minute, but I happened upon a mention of an executable file - if there is a tool available to "unlock" the debug mode then I'd love to have further talks about possible having it hosted here on devilmaycry.org. as it happenes - I've recently began coding up a downloadable files section for the site (primarily for hosting mods and various modding tools) and I've love to pick your brains on a few things.

I wish I could go into more detail but I'll be signing off in, like, 10 seconds. If you're at all interested then do please send a PM my way or leave a profile message. I'd be very eager to pursue this and making this tool available to everybody with yours and your team's permission, of course.

Thanks Steve! I'm totally crazy about this. XD The whole reason I wanted to mod this game was to get Dante in Nero's stages. And now, through our powers combined... *tear*

Anyway, we just fixed the last bug (I hope) in getting this to work for everyone with cutscenes intact. Just a matter of busywork and getting the files zipped up so anyone can use em.

PM Incoming. :3

EDIT: Release version of the Debug Patch is now live :). This will enable most versions to activate Debug mode by pressing R1+L1+L2 or equivalent on your controller.

Here's the release thread at the modding forum:

Enjoy people. This has been a long time in the making when you think about it. Dante in Nero stages. Huz-zah. :D

*I say most because there's actually a somewhat obscure 3rd version of DMC4 floating around out there that we're trying to get a hold of files for to make this work for them too (Multi5 version). But I think its safe to say 80%+ percent of people who have the game for pc have the Multi6 Retail version, and this will work for them.
