That thread title is stupid. Isn't there something against the rules about that stuff...?
But y'know? He's not entirely wrong. The game industry is stuttering right now because of the exact things he talked about, (at the least) Microsoft has very stringent policies about what can appear on their systems, and it's not very friendly, especially to indie devs. Then there's also the fact that publishers - those who provide the money for a game's development - are so insanely tied up in the bottom line and the profits that it's preventing a lot of creativity from happening.
It's the curse of any growing industry though...it has its golden age where everyone loves it and everyone loves making stuff for it, and then when people realize it's profitable, in come the ass-hats who care about nothing other than making more money. It starts out small, but soon those ass-hats think they have a handle on the industry, and start forcing the people they pay to make them a profitable product to make a lot of compromises on what is great, for what sells.
Now, we have an industry that's struggling to find what made its golden age so great, and indie devs who aren't tied to a bunch of ass-hats are able to make games like they used to be made, while AAA development is forced into this annual milking bullsh!t where creativity runs dry and franchises are driven in the ground, then cast aside for some other IP to exploit.
Mobile gaming is still sorta small and wild, but there can be a better market for it where there are way less problems like with the rest of the industry. I don't quite agree that it's "the future" of the gaming industry, but it's an untapped part of it that has more freedom, especially for the consumer (who is the most important part in all this). Most people have phones these days, and many of the games run cheaper, so it can be seen as better than having some multi-hundred dollar piece of hardware and then dropping sixty bones on new games.
I don't believe it's the future of the gaming industry, but people could really stand to not simply scoff at mobile device gaming because what makes a platform successful? Its
games. If there wasn't so much derision, we could actually see more worthwhile experiences on it.
too bad I'm gonna be seeing Ninja Theory's garbage on there now -_-
Can you just like...keep that sh!t to yourself? It's not even constructive to
any conversation.
