DmC Sales

I don't think that DMC4 did that well, considering the fact that DMC3 was only on PS2 it did a lot better.. DMC4 is stuck under 1.5 million sold games on PS3..
Even Heavenly Sword has sold more on PS3 :troll:
Actually DMC4 (2.7 mil) sold a lot more copies than DMC3(2.09 mil) and Heavenly Sword(1.57 mil), but it Capcom expected it to surpass 5 million units sold, which it why they rebooted the series.

You are not a proper sample size :P. I've heard that DMC4 was meant to appeal to mainstream audiences but I don't really see it... Only thing they did was add Nero so that newer players could start fresh with the series.. Hell I didn't get the game until a year after release (prob because I didnt have a ps3 or xbox)..

So looking back at 2008 when DMC4 came out it was competing with Assassin's Creed 1 and Prince of Persia reboot. The Prince of Persia reboot (hmm seems familiar) sold pretty badly, under 1 million units, and AS1 sold 5 million units, so in comparison to a brand new series (AS1) DMC4 had mediocre sales. But I assume DMC4 wasn't advertised as much... Now in 2013 you have AC3 which just came out and MGR competing with DmC. So almost a similar set of circumstances except DmC is now the reboot!
I think that's why they moved it to January, so it would not have to compete with the other games in the fall lineup, though I question why they would move it to 2-3 weeks before Rising comes out, that's just stupid

Yeah 2.7 mil on PS3+xbox360 --> on PS3 1.45 mil and HS 1.57 mil on PS3
DMC3 wasn't multiplatform, so...

5 Million was never their official sales projections. They said "5 Million" when they were making parallels to other action games that sold that amount, and that they would like the series to reach that amount. That was it, and it was never a declaration for their sales goal.

The official projections they have are 1.5-2 million.

My research tells differently, but that makes sense

I think 5 mil would have been realistic: had the game sold for example 2,5 mil (PS3) + 2,5 mil (xbox360) + PC sales

The series doesn't have that kind of pull. It's well regarded, but it's not 5mill+ sales by any means. Even DMC4 didn't sell that amount. I think it's just at 3-3.5 million total now, after 4 years. I see DmC doing well, but not 5 million. That'd be great, though.

My point is, 5 Million wasn't their official projection for the series.

Again, this was around the time it was first announced too. So it would be strange to declare sales goals that early.

Risings release date was announced after DmC's to it was Rising who put the release date near DmC not vice versa

DMC 4 only sold that, because that's the total for 2 different platforms ( PS 3 and X-Box).

Comparing these sales to the first game that sold more than 2 million for only one platform ( PS 2), it's nothing impressive.

DMC 2, despite its problems and bad critics ( from both users and critics), managed to sell almost 2 million for only platform ( PS 2).

On the other side, DMC 3 didn't sell a lot, it's actually the lowest entry so far.

As for DmC, it has the Devil May Cry name to sell, it has a new IP, it also has tried to get a new public ( casual players), it has some good critics ( something that DMC 2 failed).

Controversy is also going to help the game ( people will want to play it just to see what's going on).

I predict the game performing quite good, something between DMC 1 and DMC 2 sales.

Edit: I'm expecting more than 2 million life time sales for DmC ;)
Oh I know.

According to Capcom, DMC2 was the best-selling Devil May Cry game. But everyone brings up DMC4 as the best-seller (forgetting that it was multiplatform and a much smaller percentage of the console-owning were interested in it around then, etc. etc.)

Well not 100% accurate but it's from the same place as that 2.7 mil multiplatform sales, so atleast accurate enough for us.

and

So what do you think now? :D

Wow, I really have no words now, lol. I guess it's legit ( the same place says DMC 4 sold 2.7 mil).

Really shocked. Interesting enough, NT was called to make the next Devil May Cry game. Is that some kind of irony or is that fate? haha

Now I have a good argument against haters, lol. Thanks. :)

maybe 1mill seeing how alot of fans of DMC will wait and Metal Gear Rising is just down the corner not to mention all the other games and such coming out also the media hasnt helped with selling DmC like AT ALL but most likely reviews of the game will get like 8/9 when it should honestly get like 7/8's but we're talking about sales here its a Devil May Cry game so it should do fine

Are we talking about the lifetime sales, next year sales and/or multiplatform sales ? 'cause that's quite pessimistic assumption if you ask me :O

Hmm the latter two;DmC is something i dont honestly like the same as many other, you have to take into account for other games as well DmC is quite unoriginal really and i havent seen anything new in DmC so im going on the safe side and saying 1mill and at the very highest maybe 2:/
