DmC Sales

Okay guys so we all know that DmC has it's groups who love it and those who hate it. Now I'm wondering how you think it will sell. Now lets assume DmC comes out and its better then DMC 4 but not quite reaching the pinnacle that is DMC 3 (which is where I personally think it will be) and reviewers and the like give it a minimum of 8 and a maximum of a 9.5 just so we know how potential buyers will read up on the game. How well do you think it will sell? Total flop? Break a million units? The next DMC 4 in sales? (since from what ive read all the other games didnt break 2 mill excluding DMC 4) I'm curious for your opinions and also the likely-hood of a sequel

HO HO HO i think it will sell well, possibly better than previous dmcs due to the awards this games gotten at conventions, which the previous games never did

The problem Enslaved had was not many knew about it, for DmC this is the complete oppersite so I believe it will sell well. I think they just need to keep doing what they're doing now to help attract that extra attention. Letting some critics play it and review it like GT Invisible Walls to give their honest opinion is a good thing, plus we'll be having that demo too so that'll build up the hype.

I could only imagine the figures. My guess is that it'll sell more than any of the other DmC games because of the marketing, attention (especially negative), and Hype. Or, it will only sell a million within the next couple years making it another Enslaved.

It'll do just fine. A lot of the more negative minded fans see this game selling worse than Enslaved (600-800k). which is not possible. I see this game getting good reviews too, which'll get the attention of a lot of gamers. Plus it's out in January, which is a solid month for new game releases. This game will hit the 1.5-2 million sales mark they set for the game. It could likely even surpass that.

Remember, the brand is what sells. Not to discredit this game, but that's the truth. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City sold over 2 million copies, and we know how that game turned out. The DMC brand is not as strong as RE, but it's still solid. It'll do fine.

I think it will be fine.

And here's why I think so;

When first announced, Capcom wanted the fans to get all angry at it and shout about it all over the internet world. People will wonder what all the yelling is about and go to see the fireworks. So DmC was the talk of the video game world in reboot terms. Fans made all this stuff to hate new Dante and say he's not cool at all. This was making DmC shine in the sense that it created such a huge controversy, and it was also, strangely, picking up supporters of the game as well.

As the years passed, a gameplay trailer (E3 2011) was released which made a lot of fans reconsider things. But Capcom needed more angry fanboy juice so Tameen came it with his rant on how Dante wasn't cool anymore, creating more fireworks and more attention to the gaming world. as more trailers, and gameplay came, many people began to change their minds and some game reviewers gave it good reviews from the demo. Hell because of the fanboy hate it won video game awards from different events and got a lot of attention compared to the past DMC games.

When the television commercials come on, I bet the sales for it will increase from the fact that some gamers like violence like DmC is packing.

So we got supporters, regular gamers, and skeptics. I'd say it will sell alright. Whether it sells more then DMC4 is yet to be determined.

Curious people that feel negative about the game would definitely want the game just to rip it apart for a video. Like destroying it with a sledgehammer and burning it after giving people a review. Others will try to deconstruct it piece by piece and many will buy/review and tell others not to buy or buy etc, etc.

There will be those people and then there are the people who actually do review well and others with just curious wanton.

I can just smell those videos cooking.

I agree that the game will do well; controversial and wildly talked about games tend to do pretty damn well. Though I can still see this game failing at sales. There is always that possibility.

I think that it will sell as good, if not better then DMC4 because of all the hatred. If you go on youtube, all DmC videos have tons of views from a myriad of people because EVERYONE knows about this game now. Afterall, you know the saying "No publicity is bad publicity", that definitely applies here.

To be totally honest if people are gonna buy the game just to (literally) rip it apart i find that kinda pathetic... but if it's a sale it's a sale i guess?

I find that rather funny.

angry fanboys only buying the game just to break them.

I mean...that's almost $70 dollars you just burned and ripped up....What's the point?

not to mention all the kick ass trailers that have been coming out so far. ive shown them to all kinds of people fans, strangers and people who generally didnt like the DMC series. all of them have agreed that the game looks epic. so i think sales wise DmC is fine.

I've seen people do it to games like socom and call of duty it can also be done in a funny fake way, like Angry Joe usually does to really, truly terrible games.

and in my experience most of my friends were black hair haters who i converted to loving the game (though they still have some reservations about the new dante since he is an asshole which i agree with) but for the most part judging from views on youtube to people I talk to most people dont even know about DmC hence the sales curiosity

There are millions of people in the world. Half of them know what DMC is, and some only want to play DmC. Don't think there are only DMC fanboys and a small group of supporters in the world.;)

Plus new Dante's not even an asshole. He's pretty much like DMC3 Dante.

I'd say DmC sales will be hard to predict. NT games haven't been financially successful, but I don't know if that was due to their publishers lack of advertisements. Capcom seems to be pouring a lot of money into advertising this game, but i still don't think the DMC franchise has mainstream appeal. Also Capcom lowering their sales expectations shows they don't feel DmC will hit the mainstream appeal like say the RE series. But maybe add some zombies and you'll sell 5 million copies :P

Tbh i thought the old DMC 3 dante was an asshole as well and didn't like him but that's just me. As a side note while he may have a good reason for it new Dante is an asshole he has knocked a pop can out of a random fat mans hand, had a **** you competition of a demon (after calling her a ugly sack of ****) among other things. Don't get me wrong I like the new Dante and can't wait for this game to come out (pre ordered and everything) and I love that hes getting a back story of why is so arrogant unlike old Dante. It's just that to the average viewer new Dante comes off as an unlikable asshole and that will hurt his image

yeah DmC isn't about a massive military grunt on steroids shooting things in the face with an m16 so it lacks the whole main stream appeal XD

We can look at it this way.

DMC4 was made to have a much more mainstream appeal, along with being multiplatform. It sold really, really well; especially considering the fact that Capcom didn't pump as much money into marketing it as they are with DmC.

I can't see DmC tanking. That's pretty much because there are a lot of people like me who are new to the series and just wanna try the game out.

You are not a proper sample size :P. I've heard that DMC4 was meant to appeal to mainstream audiences but I don't really see it... Only thing they did was add Nero so that newer players could start fresh with the series.. Hell I didn't get the game until a year after release (prob because I didnt have a ps3 or xbox)..

So looking back at 2008 when DMC4 came out it was competing with Assassin's Creed 1 and Prince of Persia reboot. The Prince of Persia reboot (hmm seems familiar) sold pretty badly, under 1 million units, and AS1 sold 5 million units, so in comparison to a brand new series (AS1) DMC4 had mediocre sales. But I assume DMC4 wasn't advertised as much... Now in 2013 you have AC3 which just came out and MGR competing with DmC. So almost a similar set of circumstances except DmC is now the reboot!

I don't think that DMC4 did that well, considering the fact that DMC3 was only on PS2 it did a lot better.. DMC4 is stuck under 1.5 million sold games on PS3..
Even Heavenly Sword has sold more on PS3 :troll:

Edit: I'm expecting more than 2 million life time sales for DmC ;)
