dmc hands on with the new combat system {OPM}

One thing I must say is that whenever I see Dante doing the stinger he moves back and then forth a bit. So I'm guessing the stinger is performed by pressing back > forward > attack button, just like how Nero had that air sword slash and the ground slash where he moved back and forth really fast.

Other people have guessed that you just hold down the attack button to do a stinger.

I'm pretty sure that holding Y is Overdrive, we've seen him doing it more than once in The Fight trailer.

Stinger will probably be either forward + Y or forward + hold Y, and if you let go of the Y it will be Stinger only, keep holding it = trillion stabs.

nice i like that.....mm and if u hold the stinger and then repeatedly press Y....then what:P?

Why two dudge bottons? Is one for the left and the other to the right? Why can't it just be one to dudge away.

RB/R1 is the only dodge button, the function for the LB/L1 button has not been revealed. more than likely it will be the devil trigger.

Or Overdrive could be how quick drive(think that's what it was called) was in dmc4 and press two attack buttons at the same time like Y+B or Y+X..

here's a crazy theory...maybe it like the "tilt-the-stick" kind of method where you just move the analog wherever direction the enemies are and then it just automatically attacks? idk

Nah, in The Fight trailer he whiffed the first attack from Rebellion Combo A, charged and then overdrive came out every time, if it was 2 attacks it wouldn't whiff anything, or sometimes would whiff launcher.

Stinger can't be done by holding Y, that's overdrive, and I always see them doing it immediately without them previously holding anything. I'm still holding on to my theory that it is done by doing back > forward > Y as I always see Dante moving back and forth really fast the moment he does it. I can see the holding of Y for the Trillion Stabs though.

whiffed? Do u mean he did one hit first then did then does Overdrive? Thats how Dante does quick drive in DMC4, he does a hit then does drive.

How could you tell if he's holding down the the button or not? You hold B to do high time and press it just to launch an enemy.

You need to press Y to hold Y, right? So if you were not doing anything beforehand, whenever you press Y, Dante will do a slash first. You can see this whenever he does Overdrive; he slashes first, then waits a little, and does the move. That's how I know if he started holding the button or not. I've seen Stinger be performed instantly without any signs of button holding like these (unless he finished the combo, waited for like 5 seconds while holding the button, and then released it), but, again, I do see Dante slightly moving back and forth.

No thats not really true. If it was then you would always do two high times one that knocks the ememy in the air and another to atually follow it up into the air since its now mapped to one button. And the double button thing still makes Overdrive still possible since its already been done with double buttons in DMC4.

Also on a side note the reason i believe it to be this way is because it would give Dante more moves. If it is forward>back>Y then that only leaves the reverse of that for another move we have not yet seen. But if its just hold down the Y button then that leaves two more slots for moves your forward>back>Y and back>forward>Y, this would give Dante a wider range of attacks. So im not just tryin to be difficult and say you're wrong or anything.

Hightime is completely different from that because the animation starts out equally the same and in the frame interval the game will judge if you have let go or are still pressing the button in order to do the final animation (which actually counts the amount of inputs the button is giving). If this were true for something like stinger that is done by holding the same button as a regular Y attack, then the game will have to wait and see which did you do (a slash or if you are still holding the button to make stinger happen). This will cause A LOT of slowdown in all Y moves that are done simply by tapping the button. Trust me, I know this stuff, I'm a programmer.

And yeah it's cool XD I just don't expect an ubber-responsive game like this to "not do anything" for a couple of seconds just because I'm holding the button down... it just doesn't seem like a good idea. There was a reason why you always had to shoot first in DMC4 whenever you charged Nero's blue rose (for example), unless it was cancelled and you started pressing the button in middle of another animation. I also want to do my stinger fast, I don't want to hold down a button for a little while until it comes out... I can change my mind in less than half a second with these fast paced games. Conversely, wouldn't making Overdrive hold down Y and Stinger back>forward>Y allow room to put moves as X+Y or Y+B?

Well actually, here's a cool one:

At 1:40, he's using E&I (tapping X) and then instantly goes into Stinger. If Stinger was holding down Y then he must have been holding down Y while tapping X and moving at the same time... now try doing that with an Xbox360 controller and tell me if that seems kinda possible to do unless you hold it in a very weird position.

Also note as he does indeed moves back and forth really fast while he's shooting. He's simply buffering the Stinger with E&I, fighting games do this all the time.

He does stutter step a bit so it most likely your way it just seems a little complicated for people who are new to the game to do so i was thinkin it was the other way. Just a thought that probably means that the Arbiter throw moves is done the same way. Just to clear this up (even though its doesnt seem like its done this way) when i said hold the button i didnt mean hold it for a long time(like you to activate round trip or judgement cuts), u would hold it just as long as it would take to change high time.
