One of the complaints about DmC is that the franchise is supposed to be "established" and the main character is supposed to be "iconic" but the truth is, DMC is actually quite niche when compared to the real "iconic" franchises and characters.

You only see DMC/Dante-worshipping in DMC-themed forums or sites dedicated to DMC.

Out there, in mainstream sites like Cracked.com, Something Awful or 9gag, it's always about Halo, Mario, Zelda, Mega Man & Pokemon.

Even iconic characters like DC or Marvel heroes gets reboots, retelling and retcons.
For example, how many people knew that Aquaman was supposed to be about a human who took a chemical that allowed him to breath underwater, which was published for 18 years before they reboot it into the "King of Atlantis" storyline we know today?
How many people knew that Batman's butler, Alfred was not really his butler when he was first introduced?

Sorry but compared to truly notable and iconic characters and franchises out there, DMC isn't that "established" nor "iconic".

If even iconic characters gets reboots and retcons, DMC and Dante aren't so immune either.
