Ok, I just wanted to get this idea out there.

I'm sure I'm not the first to come up with this, but I haven't seen anyone else think of this (yet), so I decided to post it here.

Ok, so we have the unrelenting difficulty of DS. But, how do we make it even more agonizingly arduous?

Well, that's easy enough (ironically). We implement the survival aspects of Rust or another game of the same genre. I'm trying to "avoid" saying Day Z because as good as that game is (which started out as wonderful Arma II mod just so you know), I would still like to keep my distance from zombies in general as much as I can.

Sure, I could've suggested, "Dark Souls + Day Z + Walking Dead (the adventure game, not the fps), but the interactive "social" aspects in WD have already been done in games like Persona 3 and 4.

To add to that point, since this is "hardcore medieval survival," I figured it would be best to face the entire game alone.

Then again, I could be wrong -- perhaps a companion could be found later on during the game. Who knows? Just no escort missions. Nope.

One more thing: I came up with this idea when I read one of my many fantasy novels (the amateur e-book authors are so much fun to read for some reason) on my nook, and they kept writing about how difficult it was just to scrounge up some food and whatnot.

What would I call this game where you have to live in the wild (or cave tunnels, if we're doing this metroidvania-style) and use all your resources just to survive by the skin of your teeth?

The Ranger.

Yeah, I'm not really all that good with names.

I really like the idea of these open world survival titles, I dont play DayZ or Rust but as you can see by my threads im very intrigued by them both. I will most definitely be playing them when I get a decent PC, also looking forward to The Forest too. I have spent many hours watching live streams of DayZ and reading about peoples experiences with it and Rust and would love some games to have similar mechanics to them. The survival genre is one of the most exciting and ambitious genres that is emerging at the moment and would love to see what other studios can do with it. They seem to make you play in a way that you wouldnt normally in other titles in order to survive.

In reference to your hardcore medieval survival tagline apparently Kingdom Come: Deliverance will have elements of it (you will have to eat and sleep and wash clothes etc).
