okay so there is alot of things left unexplained in the DMC series, and one of the most recent things would be the existence of nero as the main character in dmc4. now some people liked nero and some people hated him, however im one of those people that liked what he brought to the table for the series, but i ask myself why was he there in the first place? no backstory is shared for the mysterious nero in dmc4, and i'll get back to this point in a moment. in my opinion, one reason capcom is rebooting the devil may cry series is to rebuild the story in a way where there will be no plot holes. sooooo i bring about the question: could nero be in the DmC reboot? perhaps nero would be more involved in dante's history in some way, i think this could be a good way to help explain nero's backstory. i know that this reboot isn't sticking to canon, because it is a reimagining of the dmc series, however capcom and ninja theory did say they were sticking to certain elements of the canon, so with that said the reason i ask if nero may be in the reboot is because today i went back to play through the story mode of dmc 4 and at the beginning of the game during one of the cutscenes where nero and dante are fighting i noticed dante say something. he says "...you're getting better" referring to nero directly. what is dante saying? is he meaning nero's fighting skills are getting better, because this is how i took it. so in conclusion, my theory is that at an earlier time dante and nero knew each other, they used to fight in a brotherly way much like sparring. now this theory would somewhat make sense by the reboot standards, because going along with my theory nero knew dante when he had short black hair, and basically different wardrobe all together, but in dmc4 nero does not recognize dante because he has aged and has white hair and such. so tell me what you guys think leave comments, discuss, and what not lol

btw here's a video of dante saying "you're getting better" to nero it starts at about 4:11

In context of the game, there is no real reason to question why Dante said that. He says: 'You're getting better. I guess I underestimated your abilities', and this all occurs right after Nero's arm turns into the DB. In a sense, Dante half-awakens Nero's devil by attacking him with Rebellion, so considering they both just discovered that Nero's got some demon blood in him while they've been fighting, it's pretty obvious that the 'you're getting better' line refers to their current situation.

mkay that makes sense, but i just got the feeling when i heard that line that there was more to it than that. but what you said is probably right

Don't let me kill the thread, though. Everything is speculation at this point until NT or Capcom lift the blinds for us. So Nero could be in the reboot. Didn't NT hint that some familiar faces might pop up?

Why would u want nero in this reboot? dante is now basically everything of the dmc series mashed into one guy. I hope they introduce some new people, like his mother, and hopefully sparda. Vergil would be nice in the game as well, even if he is just mentioned. I hope the story in DmC covers everything about dante and just ties loose ends and really give dante a better starting point, more character and see how it goes from there. Nero was made because a game mechanic was invented and presto' a new character. Maybe a spin off game can be made for nero, or maybe capcom could just continue the original dmc series on him! but as far as i'm concerned, i hope Nt and capcom can just focus on dante's story just to be safe.

lol okay, and you're right they did say some familiar faces might pop up, which is another reason i speculated nero might be in it, i guess its 50/50 at this point

I don't know if rebuilding the series to have no plot holes was the point of the reboot since there are easier ways to do that like just makig dmc5 with that goal in mind.

I think that nero shouldnt be in the reboot as his current self as he doesnt bring anything new to the series as dante could easily fill his role plus he is too similar to both dante and vergil to truly stand out.

the only problem with your theory is the lack of familiarity shown to one another makes it unlikely to have proir knowledge of each other so this may be the first time they have met.

so if he were to appear would you guys want him to be totally different and no connection to dante or just how he was in 4 or both with some connection to dante but totally different.

well i don't crave nero to be in the reboot, but i think it would be cool to have a cameo of him, maybe before he got possessed by the devil bringer

there is no reason why Nero couldn't be in the reboot. since it is not canon anyone can show up. i don't see why they would. Nero exists for two reasons. 1. to be a younger version of Dante (he has some traits DMC3 Dante does not have but he fills the same role) and 2. to add the Devil Bringer to gameplay. DmC Dante is around the same age as DMC3 Dante and the DmC version of rebellion has a grappling hook that fills the same role as Nero's Devil Bringer. so it doesn't seem like Nero would really add anything. but Ninja Theory might come up with a story where including Nero would make sense. of course whatever explaination Ninja Theory uses if they decided to include Nero wouldn't really matter because it wouldn't tell us anything about the DMC4 Nero.

Would Nero now be a son of sparda?
Appear as a baby?
I don't want to see nero in this reboot... i don't want new questions that we'll never have the answers to YET AGAIN.

^All said but I'll voice my opinion and say once again...No.
This would just mess the things up....but the concept of Nero in DmC would certainly be interesting.

To be honest with you, I can see them adding Vergil in it more so than Nero. Ninja Theory did say that there will be familiar faces. Faces is plural, so it hints at more than one person. But I don't think jam-packing it with previous DMC protagonists/antagonists would be very good. Leave it at one familiar face if anything, no need for them to go overboard and whatnot.

Well then the answer to the question is of course he can be in it. But I think the real question is, who wants him to be in it?

im interested in seeing how they can reinterpret him since bringing him in as is might be a bad idea as he doesnt bring anything new that makes him unique from Dante and vergil.

maybe as a playable character after beating the game, yeah! Bring nero in. But would he be a little kid if he was in dmc? i mean dante's like 30-40 years old in dmc4 (what he looks like) and nero is like 17-18 years old. why would u even try to fit him into a reboot game is what i want to know.

the only thing i would want from nero in this game is perhaps a cameo from him, which might loosely explain a relationship to dante
