Capcom’s ‘Happy’ They Proved Fans Wrong About Devil May Cry’s New Dante

Even though Devil May Cry fans may not like Dante’s rebooted teenage appearance in DmC: Devil May Cry, Capcom says that everyone is slowly coming around to liking it. And as the developers put it, they’ve been vindicated.

While talking with VG24/7, Capcom USA producer Alex Jones acknowledged the widespread backlash that Ninja Theory and Capcom suffered when they unveiled the new Dante:
Yeah, now it’s fine, but I could have done without having to fear for my life [laughs]. There was always going to be people who saw new Dante and who didn’t want it, and that’s fine. We understand – I understand – that people are passionate about it, so this isn’t a bad thing.

But as the game’s made the rounds through E3 2012, Gamescom 2012, and various press events, the scuttlebutt from gaming industry professionals is actually hinting that the game isn’t a betrayal of the source material at all. Granted, some fans aren’t going to like DmC no matter what, but Jones thinks the team’s made their breakthrough.
Being angry about it – yeah I get that – but we always said, ‘when you see the game and you play it, trust me, you’re going to understand that we were doing the right thing’. Now that’s happening, so yeah it’s vindication, but it’s not like smugly sitting back and going ‘ha ha’.
It’s more like, ‘We understand why you guys had doubts, and we knew that we had to prove this to you, and we were happy to do it.’ That was our responsibility.

Whatever the case, people won’t get to play the game until early next January, although Capcom has said they’re banking on selling at least a couple million copies worldwide. That’s either impressively optimistic, or incredibly ignorant of their status with a fan base that’s still fuming over what’s happened to the Mega Man series.

For what it’s worth, Dante does look noticeably different from his early reveal almost two years ago, where he was more pale and sickly-looking. At least now, he’s a bit more human, and seems more like an average punk rocker.

I remember there was this semi-popular image floating around predicting everything that would be wrong with DmC.
It included things like uncancellable preset combos, no jump-cancelling, major graphical slowdowns, Dante looking like Tameem, etc.

I think it came out before the first actual gameplay footage did.

I'm glad it's hilariously inaccurate.

There were still more things people complained or worried about when the game was in its earliest form of development such as...

Design choices
Difficulty/challenging
Weak and boring story
Whack demon boss designs
Vulgarity/language(script)
Weak combat system
Frame-rate drop
Slow combat because of the 60-30 fps drop
Glitches like the ones in Enslaved
Mostly the fact the game was being made by a developer who hasn't made any great game.....Kung-Foo Chaos I heard was fun and my friend told me it was her favorite game to play as a kid. Enslaved okay game a lot of problems, Heavenly Sword probably their best game but nothing really special when there is much better games in the same genre out there (DMC, GoW, Ninja Gaiden, NMH, etc). I infact never trusted Ninja Theory to make a good DMC game but its because of the fact that Capcom literally sent them to one of their one board schools and university and taught them step by step how to make a good DMC game and the fact that Capcom heads like Itsuno and such are literally guiding NT frame by frame, step by step, and aspect how to make the game and giving them decades of wisdom of how to make a good game. When NT says they can they can make an action game that moves at 30 fps just as good as a game that runs at 60 fps....I go yeah sure and I even doubt they can do it but when Itsuno and Capcom says it....I feel a bit more confident in this project.

So in other words, you didn't know what "collaboration" meant?

A cheap God of War wannabe and a glitchy game whose only good attributes was its story and characters as well as design.

I played that entire game with no glitches and it's story and gameplay did not feel like God of War nor did the characters. So name what was so identical to God of War.

DMC 4 was a half finished game with a story that killed it's own main protagonist.

I'm glad that they-NT and Capcom- "proved" themselves.

Personally, I have yet to see something that gets me excited about this game, but as of yet, nope.. I feel no excitement for this.

And without NT Capcom couldn't have made this a good game on their own.

They could have made it, but it wouldn't be as visually appealing, Dante would once again dress ridiculous, more cheesy lines, not much character development cause of the crappy writers of Capcom, gameplay would be just another copy and paste from DMC3 like DMC4 was, and another crappy camera.

When I said glitchy game and the other stuff after it I was referring to Enslaved.

DMC4 was still hell of a lot better than anything NT has ever made......on their own. Heavenly Sword would be the unfinished game...it was a simple game with just 5 BOSS BATTLES not 5 bosses (it had 4 bosses) but 5 BOSS BATTLES. That is literally the lowest amount of boss battles I've seen in any game (that wasn't a shooter cause those don't really use boss fights like action games)......Enslaved too had a small amount of bosses and boss fights but kinda due to its genre I don't count it against it when comparing it to DMC & Heavenly Sword.

I asked you to explain how it's a God of War wanna be.

You dodging questions?

DMC had a series that it could learn from. If there wasn't alot of games out when Heavenly Sword dropped it would've been made top 5.

It had the whole spinning sword thing and quick tie events that GOW is known for. Plus Nariko's blades were like Kratos only bigger.

Very well, heavy and light stance is just a redux of Kratos heavy and light attacks the same way Dante's Angel & Demon mode is a redux of Nariko's heavy & light stance and there are similar weapons like Kratos chain blades and Nariko having swords that work similar to that due to their whip effect.

Plus your the one dodging questions...I point out other reasons(in my last post) that you clearly ignored due to the fact those points are the winning details for this debate.
