Born Again - Gamasutra Preview/Interview Article

Nice. Also, too bad about Agility getting banned permanently.

It is nice but what most people don't know about Truestyle and most combo mad videos of DMC4 is that.....

1. They are played on the PC version not the console version which has Turbo Mode while the console versions doesn't

2. The PC can enable someone (if have the proper PC editing skills and some costly software equipment) to jump up the FPS to how much they want literally I heard something about 200 fps so sometimes some of these PC players are playing past the 60 fps.

3. They tend to speed up the video itself making faster than it normally it is

4. Most players (scratch that all players) don't use half of the moves of Pandora which would easily ruin the high speed flow of the combat they're aiming for.

So no one can achieve this type of insane and high speed combo madness playing on the console version of DMC4. Trust me....I've tried...the most you can do is fully master Jump Cancelling, Guard Cancelling, & Instant Exceeding (this one isn't that hard really).

Ah, so that's how it's so fast. speeding up FPS. No wonder cause when I try to do those moves on DMC3, it's a lot harder.

For DMC3 its a different story.....that one is a bit more legit...you just needed more skill.....I mean if you seen the TGS crazy combo trailer....that is not too different from the Truestyle tourneys.

Absolutely not. FPS is fluidity, not speed.
It's a difference and, I daresay, not a small one. They could crank up their framerate to 1000 frames per second and it wouldn't change anything about the speed of the game.
Now that I think about it, the game would probably "look" faster, if you tuned down the frames. Funny.

That's right. How do we know? Turn down the vids to the standard resolution setting in You-tube.They are each now running at just 30 frames per second max and they lose no speed whatsoever. However that smoothness in animation and the fluidity is not as high. The fluid movements allow you to see openings and gaps in moves and take advantage of visual cues and movements in the animations that are clearer to the eye at higher frame-rates. Because of this, a lower frame-rate game like DmC) with have to have really good animators that excel at suggestive and communicative conveyance in animation to emphasize visual cues in animation - as well as great foley artist who can create unique audio cues to indicate these things .

Well, that's what their mocap-technique is famous for, isn't it?

1. A lot of entries are recorded on console, especially back when TST was going on.

3. There was a few players that tried things like that but methods were quickly found to debunk when people had sped up gameplay footage. No entries of TST were sped up.

4.Wrong, a lot of modern players use Lucifer to juggle enemies to set up Pandora moves or Round Trip
and you can achieve all those mechanics on console, trust me. In fact I think that video was recorded on console.

Also just to clarify TST was a few events held by Phantombabies.net a few years ago and it is unlikely they'll do another one. There have been other Style Tounaments since then like the Infernal Style and Sons of Sparda tournament (which is going on now) so unfortunately if people want to make DmC TST videos it would be a bit silly as TST no longer exists, your best bet is to start a style tournament yourself. You could even start advertising now for a post launch one.

That would sound cool. Someone get ChocolateGhost to read this since he's thinking of doing one for DmC.

Mo-cap is only for cut-scenes. All in-game animation is key framed and hand done.

I am not entirely sure, whether that is true. I thought myself well-educated in that matter, but I am ready to be proven wrong.
Commencing research.

Ask Tammem or Dom on twitter. They'll tell you. Also, how would they mo-cap the things Dante can do in-game with an actor? Aside from the taunts in previous games, all the controllable action is hand animated for frame, control and action precision.
