Have you tried Braid? It's available from Steam (http://steampowered.com) and it's a superb puzzle-adventure game, if a little short. Definitely look into that one.

Also, now that I think about it, if you don't mind a bit of the ol' retro, then you should definitely look into Duke Nukem 3D and all the add-ons. I used to LOVE Duke Nukem. I wish I still had my old "Atomic Edition" limited edition t-shirt...

Starcraft and it's expansion. The most balanced competetive RTS there is out there.

Freelancer is a great space adventure game too, and is quite old.

Devil may cry 3: Special Edition. :P

DOOM? The old retro ones.

Err... I mostly play RTS games on my computer. >.<

If you're into ol' retro games, there are some great sites out there.
(*cough* rom, emulators etc)

Like aka said DMC3 SE. (I spent £150 on a second Hand/ pre-owned laptop last week and i was buzzing that it played special edition)

It's very difficult to know what to suggest.

EDIT: If your into making little things suffer, there is always the sims and the sims 2.

Neverwinter Nights? That's a Forgotten Realms fantasy adventure game...hrm...RPG xD

Neverwinter Nights is kinda fun. ^_^
Dungeon siege, Diablo, Diablo 2 too.

Homeworld for a space strategy game?
