Anybody Else Gonna Turn Off Damage Increase?

I've never been a fan of "damage increase" upgrades in a game where you can replay the stages or with a "new game+".
It's hard to put into words but all I can say it's something to do with 'balance'.

This game's upgrade mechanics seems to be like Bayonetta's, where you can toggle between turning them off or on, even after you obtain the upgrades, meaning they're not permanently stuck on you.

Some of the upgrades include damage increase for some of the moves and combos.

While I might obtain them for completion's sake (and maybe for Achievements/Trophies), I might have them turned off so the enemies don't die on me too quickly.

You can equip the upgrades you want using the orbs you've obtained and you can pull them out if you no longer desire them.

Correction - the Upgrade Points are spent on skills, but yeah, they can be refunded at any time you shop. Although, not all of the upgrades are specifically for damage. A lot of them are for increased effectiveness, like Roulette Spin and Double Up Lv2 giving you more lift, Rake blasting up more enemies, and stuff like that.

...his E-PEEN is over NINE THOUSAND!

And yeah, I find it more fun and fulfilling to go and max things out, since it's the way the game's set up. Challenge runs are after that.

I'll make my Dante as powerful as possible. If I manage to beat DMD, then I may take off the damage buffs to toy around with enemies on normal difficulty... but I dunno, it all depends on how I feel after beating DMD. For all I know, I may have more fun playing through normal as an unstoppable force.

And what the hell is your point? Dude, all you seem to do is state obvious sh*t no one cares about :/
Pardon the pointlessness of this, but I instantly remembered this skit when you said that.

In all seriousness, I found his post useful. I never knew DMC4 had the option to refund skills (I only beat DMC4 once, like a few years ago when it came out). I'm not sure what his point is, but I learned something new.

It was very easy to notice in DMC4 >_< Although, I suppose it could be overlooked, since you have to select something you already purchased.

My point is that people talk about it as something new while it was there for years already, and don't be an asshole.

Except nobody was saying anything like that, only pointing out that it was possible. My apologies, o Lord of All Things Devil May Cry, are we supposed to refer to the classics whenever anything DmC does has been done before? You might want to etch that into your stone tablet so us normal folk can remember.

Will do, glad I could help.

I'm gonna refer Nero here: "What's the point of packing a sword like that if you aren't even gonna use it!" so hell yeah I'm pumping Dante until he is greater than Chuck Norris himself :P

I still love that little motion Dante did in that scene, where he put down Rebellion and jerked the grip like it was a throttle, making fun of Nero.

I wonder though.....how many upgrades were there in the other DMC games that just had the phrase "Increase damage of (so and so)" because I think I remember every upgrade either adding a new move or expanding on a move already in use.

I always felt that the upgrades increased combat options rather than just increased power.

It's sorta both in DmC. There's entirely new moves to buy, some damage increases to existing moves, and effectiveness increases on other moves.

Classic Dante can't possibly be better than Chuck Norris; he doesn't even have a beard!

I say you're a LIAR señor azar lulz!
