Sex is as natural as eating, breathing and sleeping. It is one of our prime needs, it is encoded in our DNA, it is part of who we are as human beings. It is not wrong and shouldn't be taboo.

Exactly how I think. But yet we consider it taboo. There used to be a time when it didn't matter, but somewhere down the line it became something that people have to do in private.

I'm against that. Not saying people should go naked and have sex in the middle of the street, but to consider it taboo is wrong. I thought we had already had a sexual revolution which opened the mind of people, but I keep getting met with prudes making statements against it. We all are sexual objects, but we are also alot more than just that. I can understand that being seen ONLY as a sexual object is wrong, but that is not the case with the FF13-2 case I mentioned above. Serah as a character is ALOT more than that, she is a brave woman and a warrior, she looks for her sister and fights alot of bad guys. She isn't represented as a sexual object outside of that one DLC costume. It is a beautifully designed outfit, it isn't degrading doesn't make her look like a tramp in any way.

It's just like parents who complain over violence in games or religious groups who go against homosexuality, imo.

I agree. People being seen as only a sex object is terrible. But having sexual appeal as a quality that adds to their overall image isn't necessarily a bad thing.

You're right, it probably should not be, but it most definitely is. Every single major culture that exists on earth right now has some form of sexual 'taboo'. It varies from place to place. In some parts of Africa, a female can be naked all except for her inner thigh being covered, and she is not considered indecent. But her inner thigh in that culture is, and has to be covered. In the West, our laws say that crotch area on both sexes be covered, and that women's breasts are not 100% exposed, or else this is considered indecent exposure. In some parts of Asia, showing nipples through clothing is considered indecent.

The more you think of it and the more examples you find, the sillier it seems to become that we demand various parts are covered. I think though, it's just because of the old beliefs of that culture stemming from a feeling of awkwardness and of being able to preserve dignity before others. If everyone walked about naked, there is no doubt people would be looking sexually at one another (not all of them of course, but it can't not be expected) and would we want that? Would we want to be vetted in that way every time we were near another stranger? Apparently not. So we cover up. And perhaps we cover up to prevent ourselves from being sexually distracted as well. Hence the concept of 'decency' came about? The parts we cover are usually to do with sex so I think it is to control our urges that we do this as a species.

I am not sure where breasts became such symbols of sex though. They're definitely for feeding babies, and I don't think it should be indecent that a mother feeds their kid that way, even if it's in public. Amazed that sometimes gets outcries of "indecency" when it happens in places like the West...

Especially if it helps you get a job or move up in your career ;) It's the misuse and abuse (and a lot of messed up people out there such as rapists and pedophiles and molesters) of sexuality that has made it a taboo. But then it's not really all that much of a taboo, if you consider how much sex is on TV, in movies and in books. Games are toned down on sexuality if you compare them to shows like Drawn Together, Spartacus *cough* and that stupid game where you have to hump every girl you come across on a big ship to score points. Forgot the name of it. Was pretty stupid anyway.

And even if the world was void of the bad and evil and wrong aspects of sexuality and sex, I doubt ANYBODY would want to see their parents getting jiggy with it. But then that's besides the point, I think, because there's a massive difference between sexual appeal and the actual act.

Just to get the thread back on track, I think the issue here with Serah's outfit putting her forth as a sex object that infuriates feminists, is that for the most part women have a different view on dress code than men do. If you dress scantily you are automatically classed as a whore/slut by the female race (because why else would you put out unless you were trying to attract the male race's attention?) and you are automatically seen as a sex object by the male race. I'm generalising but that's because for every one guy that purposely avoids looking at girls in tiny shorts and baby T's, there's another five that drool and 'want', y'know what I mean? If you consider the dynamics of the male and female brain, men are easily turned on through VISUALS (hence this disgusting thing called porn being a hit with guys) whereas women (or most who have a conscience) need a bit more emotional stimulation to get turned on (hence guys flirting and flattering women with compliments to make them FEEL good).

And considering that the majority of women (I should really say teenagers, I guess) nowadays dress like prostitutes, well... you know, if you have to stoop to that level... you see where I'm going with this. Girls demoralise themselves. De-MORAL-ise. They lower their standards. Not because it's 'cool' or 'the trend' but because it's easier to bag a guy or get attention from a guy through visual exposion than having the patience and confidence and self-esteem to let a guy get to know her first before jumping into bed with him and hoping things 'work out'.

I sense a few insults in this post, suggesting I am several negative things for not thinking sex should be taboo.

To me this means that if I like porn and don't need emotional stimulans, then I'm disgusting and have no conscience.

I don't think that's what she meant. You're taking it a little too personally.

Being a furry, I'm a fan of things that would probably turn away most people. But that doesn't make me a bad person and I'm sure DS could vouch for that.

My post was in no way, means or manner directed at you personally nor was it directed at anyone personally. As I said in my post:
I'm generalising
If you take my post to mean that way, then that's your perogative. I did not intend my post to be taken as some kind of personal attack. If you'd like to continue this discussion you can PM me and rant at me all you like if it will make you feel better about yourself and the topic at hand.
Also, I never said people who watch porn is disgusting. I said
this disgusting thing called porn
Am I in the clear now?

You're right Meg, just wanted to share my experiences with feminists which collided in the way it did.

I also read too much into what Dante's Stalker wrote, I'm not offended or taking it personally, it just read like it was meant as being offensive from where I sit. After reading your explanation, I see I was wrong in thinking that, so I'm sorry for that. ^^

And feminism!!! :D

@Zerolove, it's cool, no harm no foul :)

It's just annoying getting yelled at by women who think I'm a total creep when I generally agree with their points of equality, but also freedom of sexuality which they think is degrading and wrong for some reason. I've actually had the same experience with a few very hardcore religious people.
