Newtype is a term from Gundam which refers to folks with precognitive abilities and psychic powers. And Lain happens to be a big Gundam fan. :p Newtype magazine was named after these people.

Aye, Dreadnought is on the money. Newtypes are a big deal in Gundam as their enhanced abilities make them effective soldiers even if they're children. I borrowed the term because it sounded really cool and I certainly wouldn't mind having those powers. :p

"The more you know." G Gundam didn't have newtypes so I had no idea. (G Gundam being the only show I'm versed in.)

Newtypes only occur in what's called the "Universal Century". Different Gundam shows belong in different universes kinda like how MegaMan and MegaMan X is different. "G Gundam" is set in the "Future Century" so naturally no Newtypes in there. ;)

@Sparda's rejected son: Universal Century is the base timeline. Then you have
Wing: After Colony
G: Future Century
SEED and SEED Destiny: Cosmic Era
00: Anno Domini
Turn A: Correct Century
AGE: Advanced Generation
Reconguista in G: Regild Century
Iron-Blooded Orphans: Post-Catastrophe

I see. So with that said how would Domon in hyper mode fair against a newtype protagonist from a newer Gundam series?

Banagher Links, the strongest Newtype ever recorded, was able to cause an entire platoon of enemy Mobile Suits to shut down with a wave of his mech's hand. I'm not sure Domon has a defense against that, and this is coming from someone who really likes G Gundam.

Wow how "OP." But a Sekihatenkioken (I may have spelled that wrong) from Hyper Domon could produce the same effect. Or just Master Asia could do just about anything.

The answer to all Gundam debates is of course "Moonlight Butterfly".
Wins every time. :p

I feel that reference is lost on me.

It's the ultimate attack of the ∀ Gundam. Ridiculously OP in that it can reduce entire civilisations to ash in mere moments and can stretch from Earth all the way to Jupiter. It's jokingly brought up as the answer to any Gundam fight debate - even if it wasn't part of the debate in the first place.

My God that sounds "OP." AND I LOVE THE CONCEPT!

@Sparda's rejected son: Yeah, the Turn A Gundam reduced the entirety of the timeline to sand. It's powered by nanomachines that essentially eat any technology they come across, and it goes waaaaaay the hell across the solar system.

I was always the impression that "Turn A Gundam" was the "black sheep" of the Gundam series. Or does that honor belong to the Chibi Gundams that are actually alive and talk?

Nah, Turn A was received reasonably well. I guess the black sheep of the series would be either Gundam AGE which statistically did the worst in terms of sales and ratings. Or maybe G-Saviour which was the Dragonball Evolution of Gundam. A live action adaption that everyone ignores.

Not gonna lie, "G-Saviour" sounds like a raunchy porno flick. :D (Googles G-Saviour) Well my interest has been peaked. (Plus... I actually like DB Evolution. Go ahead, stone me brah!)
