Nice try, but no. My college major is Copyright & Trademark, so I know perfectly well that nothing, I repeat, NOTHING would've stopped CDPR from making a sequel with the same name, especially since it's already filed under an umbrella trademark of Cyberpunk 2013. If someone else made a game with the phrase Cyberpunk in the future, NOTHING would stop CDPR from releasing sequels or expansions under the same name.

Trademarks DO NOT work like that. Unless the rival property is specifically named in the same fashion, i.e., "Cyberpunk Insert Year Here", then they're not in any legal position to demand legal royalties from CDPR, or vice versa. But CDPR isn't trademarking that wording order or phrasing, which ironically, Mike Pondsmith had better sense to do.

They're trademarking the word Cyberpunk in a broader sense, giving them the reigns to abuse it anyway they like. It's the difference between trademarking "Fantasy", and trademarking "Final Fantasy", and this is clearly the former. CDPR risk absolutely nothing w/ the name of their property, and are most likely doing this to discourage competition...

...a fear of plagiarism which is ironic, considering their spotty track record with the Witcher games.

But they're not trademarking the word Cyberpunk that way according to the link I sent? They gave an example where the word 'cyberpunk' was in the name of a title and there wouldn't be an issue. Fair enough you have a college major in copyright & trademark, but I'm still a bit skeptical about this evil corporation you seem to be going with.
