It's not a retcon people! It's just what Obi-Wan believes, because in his mind, Anakin is dead. He's given up on him. Hell, he didn't think it was possible for Vader to turn back to the light. Telling Luke he would have to kill his father, and he was wrong about that too

You remember Harry Potter? How people said that Neville Longbottom was the chosen one. Well, they were kind of right. But, in reality, Harry and Neville were both 'chosen ones'.

Same thing with Star Wars. Anakin (just like Harry) was always the chosen one, but it took something else for them to succeed. For Harry, it was Neville killing Nagini. For Anakin, it was finding the light inside himself thanks to his son. Both were equally important, both were chosen ones.

And that's a fine theory (Word of God, Anakin is the chosen one, but Luke was the catalyst) my problem is people taking a character's belief as a retcon, when it's just meant to be that character's belief
