It does feel 'like' a Star Wars movie. In fact, much of SW:TFA thrives off of giving you that nostalgic feeling. Many have compared its story to that of Episodes 4 and 5.
Meh, I dunno. The other SW movies very much felt like a space Homer poem. True space operas. This one, felt like a weird mix between a Marvel flick, Lord of the Rings and even friggin Harry Potter. Its tone and feel didn't remind me of the old movies at all. Only the returning characters did.
I could buy her being able to fly ships and understand the droid, as other characters can too. But her mastering the Force to the point of resisiting to Kylo (even to just some degree), learning the mind trick in seconds, and magically become more skilled than Ren with the lightsaber (she received zero training for both, and even if she did, the Force doesn't work like that), I absolutely could not.
Actually, the only thing I can't buy into is the Jedi mindtrick. Rey was no skilled lightsabre wielder, granted. But the use of the force whilst wielding a lightsabre can increase your skill with one. Not to mention that Kylo was focused on asking her to join him, and she merely caught him off balance.
Also, the 'mind-reading' thing isn't something we've seen in the movies before. And since Kylo normally uses it on non-force sensitive beings, we can't assume how difficult it would be for someone with the force to block it out.
The Force can increase your combat skill? I don't remember that, where was that shown or said?
But even if it could, I still don't buy her beating Kylo. Regardless of her skill boost, if that's true then it also applies to Ren, who was much more versed into both saber combat and Force wielding.
It's a classic case of hero has to beat villain even if it doesn't make sense, and I didn't like it. Especially since the movie did a good job establishing how strong Kylo Ren was.
They never actually said it in the films. It was something that I stumbled across when reading about Star Wars. Anyway, you're missing the point. I honestly don't understand what's so hard to believe about her catching him off balance.
You give too much credit to Ren simply because the movies says "yep, he's a badass". Yet it's not fair or right to say that Rey is as equally talented, or a worthy opponent? We know very little about her; nothing of her background, possible prior training or experience, or anything of the like.
While the good wins is a staple, yes, you have to have good reasons backing the victory up, you can't just make it so through some forced (no pun intended) deus ex machina even if the hero is clearly weaker just because that's how it has to be.
