Grand Theft Auto on the other hand has countless games that are set in fictional cities/states within America, with the only exception being GTA: London. Considering that GTA's main three locations are Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas, I'd say it would make more sense for GTA 6 to take place in Vice City.

I just want another Red Dead.

What was wrong with Sleeping Dogs? It had a good story. Much better than the other True Crime games in my opinion. I did like Streets of LA, but thought New York City was bad.

No, Sleeping Dogs WAS meant to be a True Crime game but then they decided to make it another franchise. Much like DMC was gonna be a RE game but then became its own thing.

Which still wouldn't really make my point any less valid. True Crime or not, GTA has countless games all set in America (with the exception of London), so to me it just wouldn't feel right.

In fact I never disagreed with you on GTA. Just on Sleeping Dogs.

What I said about Sleeping Dogs is no different to what you said anyway. It's pretty much a True Crime game anyway. I've played all of them to know that it's not that much different in any case.

Sleeping Dogs was originally intended to be True Crime: Hong Kong, or True Crime 3. Although it was taken over by Square Enix, the wikia states that it is still technically part of the True Crime game series.

My original point was that if GTA was to go with a Tokyo setting it wouldn't feel right to me. Since GTA has a much greater number of games set in America.

You trust the wikia over direct words from the producer of the game? They place it outside of the True Crime series, so it's not part of the franchise. They always intended it as its own IP, so it's its own IP. It's simple. There's no "technically", nor "pretty much". It's official, it's its own IP.

And yeah I never disagreed with your point about GTA, I don't know why you keep bringing it up. What I disagreed with is proposing Sleeping Dogs moving to Japan.

I'm sorry, but what? Your article says that they wanted to establish it as its own IP. I'm sorry, but that's not likely to happen considering that (1) it was taken over from the True Crime game series. If you've played the games, you can clearly see that, and (2) nobody is going to see it as a separate IP.

Why? Because it plays and feels just like True Crime. Whether that was their intention isn't the point, since the game acts and feels just like a TC game.

There are multiple things I've read that place Sleeping Dogs in the True Crime series, so yes I will take that over the article you posted. All you have to do is google Sleeping Dogs and it says it's part of the True Crime series, or vice versa.

I did google that, and that very article popped up. I don't really care if people want to see it as a True Crime game or not. It still is not officially a TC game, despite playing similarly. Whether a game belongs to a franchise or not doesn't necessarily depend on how similarly it plays and feels anyway. Otherwise Path of Exile and Sacred would be the same franchise. Or Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
Foxtrot94

That's not how it works. You got solid proof from the devs themselves that it's not True Crime, the fact that fans perceive it as a TC game doesn't change that fact.

I'm just going to agree to disagree.

i think what LoD tries to say is that it don't matter if it's not a TC game, cuz the game feels like a TC game, i don't know a TC game so i'm just guessing.. same as dark souls and bloodborne, not the same fracnchise, but the feel is still there, call it a spiritual successor.. never played them games either
Foxtrot94

Exactly, SD is more of a spiritual successor of the TC series.

However, Sleeping Dogs set anywhere other than China? Eh, seems off you know.

I'm sorry Fox. And yes, absolitude is right, it is a spiritual successor.
