he's pretty awesome, i've yet to read Blame but i've been watching the anime adaptation of Knights of sidonia and it's pretty damn great(he made the manga and from what i've been told it's pretty much the same).

IIRC, he has a cult following, especially in Germany. But he's not a "big name" in the sense I think you're referring to.
