But when it comes to the relentless worship of Japanese Gaming Devs, who do you think deserves it less? You'll say Kojima right off the bat, sure, but Kamiya's flaws outweigh any good he might have done in my honest opinion.
While SB's combat might be better than Kingdom of Amalur's, on the whole, the game itself won't be as good as Kingdom's, letting the combat cover up any flaws Scalebound might have in terms of combat.
I can't bring myself to cast Kojima to the same depths of biting criticism hell that I put Kamiya in due to everything that's happened.
Am I allowing my personal bias to color my perspective? Absolutely. But I also know that Kojima, for all of his MANY flaws, doesn't have one TENTH of the pure, unbridled malice that Kamiya does towards anyone he has a negative opinion of.
I can treat Kamiya with far more leniency since HIS priorities only rest with creating an amusing spectacle. He cares about what "looks and feels cool", and nothing else. He doesn't try to be pretentious, he doesn't spew delusional assumptions about storytelling, and he hasn't single-handedly ruined an entire genre of gaming with his presence alone. Kojima DID.
As for Scalebound not being as good as Amalur---I'm going on a limb that it's not attempting to be Amalur. If it's a competent game on its own...I don't see a problem with it. I don't hate Metal Gear because it isn't enough like Tenchu or Splinter Cell... I hate Metal Gear because it absolutely sucks as a game, period.
Yeah. Kojima did ruin an entire genre. I freely admit that.
You know what he didn't do, though? Treat his fans (and critics) badly. Or maybe he did, I haven't heard anything.
Kojima is a bumbling fool, no doubt about that, but... I'll take an idiot with an ego over a man who thinks he created two genres single-handedly and thinks he can treat anyone however he wants because of that.
Kojima's ego is nothing compared to Kamiya's. Whatever "fun" Kamiya has in his games isn't worth the forced "cool" and over the top cheesiness that's rammed down my throat every three seconds when I'm just trying to beat a boss.
True enough about the delusions of "coolness." I wasn't aware of Kamiya mistreating his fans, though...what exactly is the story behind that? For info purposes, purely.
Dude, Devil's Third is fantastic. Its campaign and "story" (if you feel comfortable calling it that) is nothing short of hilarious, and its multiplayer is the most addicting thing since Star Wars Battlefront 2. The only thing stopping me from getting the physical copy of the game...is its abysmally-high price.
