Apparently that wasn't the case. Now it's gone and I'm left with a mediocre version of Constantine, ala Supernatural for anything resembling Hellblazer.
Honestly? Hellblazer was one of those series that was just better off as a comic, like Watchmen. It just loses a good chunk of its soul when it makes a leap or transition like that. It's why I don't have much faith in Preacher either - it's just that sort of story and setting. Some comics belong on a big (or little) screen, some not so much.
But Constantine had potential to grow more closer to Hellblazer and was slowly gravitating towards it. Plus Constantine wasn't trying to truly be Hellblazer but rather a better version of the DC Constantine series, which is what it was. I don't have faith in Preacher either, but we'll wait and see.
If you want a good series for television, Y The Last Man is a perfect fit. And we already have Zachary Levi lobbying to be Yorick! There are also rumors floating around of the lost gestating Transmetropolitan project being sold to Netflix. So, we lose one, but potentially gain two.
I'm sorry to hear it was cancelled, DM. =( I really loved the show and was hoping Netflix (or one of the cable channels, even) would pick it up. Hopefully someone in tv will come to their senses and work on the show again. =(
