Completely agree in fact heller wouldn't ever have beaten him if he wasn't the protagonist so obviously mercer wanted to be ended and let heller win

Mercer was much more interesting character. H was anti-hero who tried to correct wrong of his own body in P1. Heller was just another bend on revenge, ****ed soldier dudebro imho

I agree that they ****ed up Mercer's character after P1. However, Heller was mentally unstable. He was suffering from PTSD and had suicidal tendencies, so it would make sense that he has issues.

Mercer's character in P2 was actually cool. It's just that, "destory humanity" thing was a cop out for another main villain.

Why not make heller the antagonist with issues and mercer the protagonist again that would have been better

There's a common fan theory that the Mercer you fight in P2 is only one of many. His biomass was splattered all over the place from the nuke detonating, there's a large chance that some other chunks became new Mercers.

There is also the fact that Heller was constantly evolving for one-on-one aggressive combat. Mercer was evolving himself differently, attempting to become a Hive King. He became so fixated on becoming a troop controller that he lost the ability to fight on the front lines.

Eh I just felt they made mercer villain just so Heller won't go under. In the end, he did it anyway, since it he couldn't reach mercer's level.
