Dishonored may not have been the "spiritual successor to Thief" like its devs promised, but it's certainly a more rewarding and entertaining experience than the Metal Gear games have been in their entire existence. Even the universally-acknowledged ****ty Metal Gears like "2" and "4" receive perfect scores.
I guess some people really enjoy a game that's 2 hours worth of gameplay and 8 hours worth of cutscenes. Meanwhile, narratives in games like Deus Ex and Lords of Shadow do in a few minutes what MGS can't do in ten hours worth of exposition and ham-fisted soliloquies.
Funnily enough, this Boot Camp practice was still going on at Konami while it was under Hideo Kojima's supervision. Amusing how nobody fails to talk about that whenever it's "Konami-Blasting Hour"
Why is it that Japanese gaming "auteurs" (*snrk*) always get a free pass while their western counterparts get the shaft reputation-wise whenever they point out the fact that the Japanese really aren't these godlike avatars of power that their fans have made them out to be?
I mean, whatever you may think of Phil Fish, at least he was right about Kojima -- and I'll pick Fez over MGS3: Subsistence any day of the week.
To tell the truth I'm still waiting for a decent third-person survivalist AAA game (without the talking and Godzilla references) as much as I'm waiting for a good AMC post-apocalyptic show that DOESN'T involve walkers...
If I were being completely truthful right now, I'd say that this looks better than MGSV if only for the fact that it has almost none of the pretentiousness and grandstanding that Kojima infuses into almost every single one of his recent titles.
At least Ghost Recon doesn't need a mini-mech... >_>
Dude, this is nothing new. The Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon games have shat down the throat of Kojima's poorly-made B-Movies for years...in tone, stealth mechanics, characters and development. Tom Clancy's vision embodied "Tactical Espionage Action" in ways Kojima could never dream of doing.
