I think it's a product of the times, and maybe the specific company that did the dubbing. Though when it comes to Cardcaptors, it was a different company entirely (Canadian dubbing...which wouldn't have been bad, if it had been a different group to do it, lol) and they did a lot of changes, too. I think it boils down to some conservative attitudes.
Shadow
Shadow
Hmm...true. Anime and manga aren't very...ah...conservative with their content a lot of times, so I'm sure a lot of western companies probably freak out at some of it and change it. x_x *thinking of most of the stuff with Alois and how, in the US at least, it would have never made tv*
Btw, what's your current status in reference to? *curious*
Rebel Dynasty
Rebel Dynasty
Lol, they really aren't; but, that's okay. I'm on the third OVA of season 2, so I'm nearly done. I could have cried when Ciel...well, you know. :( Surprisingly, despite him being a nobleman, I actually really liked his character...and to be demonized? Well, it made me sad. T_T
Shadow
Shadow
I nearly did, as well. =( Ciel's always been a character I liked but wanted to smack at the same time, so seeing him as a demon & how much he changed...that was hard. That said, I hope next season doesn't reboot the series. :/ I'd like to see what they could do with it. *felt bad for Sebby in the end* Oh! Have you seen both of the Ciel in Wonderland episodes? XD *loves those & The Story of Will the Reaper*
Rebel Dynasty
Rebel Dynasty
I saw the first Ciel in Wonderland episode; I cackled throughout. The abuse he's put through was just...priceless. XD His reaction when he had to wear his lady disguise again was about the cutest thing, ever. I'm going to wrap up the rest today. ^^ Any idea when season 3 will be in the works? Or does it just need dubbing?
Shadow
Shadow
XD It was, right? LOL Wait til you see episode two. XD *thinks Ciel's aversion to the whole cross-dressing incident is just adorable**hopes you like the end* Well, at the end of February they greenlit the third season, so...I'm assuming it'll be a long time before it comes out, unfortunately. =(
Rebel Dynasty
Rebel Dynasty
Hahaha! We're of the same mind, it seems. ^^ It's because he's usually so stoic, that seeing him flustered or put in these undignified situations is something of a treat. The OVA episodes at least alleviate some of my sadness about how things turned out. Pretty much as soon as Alois came into the picture, I was like, "If you hurt Ciel, I'll never forgive you!" The little twerp grew on me, I guess. :)
Rebel Dynasty
Rebel Dynasty
And that sucks....T_T I hope they don't make us wait too long. How many manga are there for the series?
Shadow
Shadow
Woot! *highfives* Haha, yeah. :p *completely agrees* They are. When I first started rewatching it with mum, I had to make sure we watched the finale on a night when we'd have time to watch some of the OVAs before she went to bed just because of how sad it is. LOL Same here. :p That said, I've never liked Alois. >_< Given our similarities, he just...rubs me the wrong way.
Shadow
Shadow
Yep, it does. =( I'm hoping they'll have the Japanese version out by the end of the year, but...I dunno if they've announced any dates, yet. *will have to look* The 91 chapter should be released this week *runs to check manga tree really quick to see if it's out, yet* and the 17th volume will be out in June, I believe.

I felt sorry for Alois at points, but I don't like him, either. Ciel really grew on me, though. Still spoiled given his station, but so much more likable. He treats his servants with respect, which counts for something. :) I checked on youtube, and I think it might be out in mid to late May. Not too sure, though.
Rebel Dynasty
Rebel Dynasty
Looks like I have a long way to go, if I start collecting the manga. ^^; Oh well, it's a worthwhile endeavour. My bookshelf needs more variety, after all.
Shadow
Shadow
Hmm...true, I guess I did have my moments where I felt bad for him (what he says to Claude right after Ciel stabs him is just...ouch! >_< *can't imagine having someone she cares for look at her like that*). Same here! I really found myself liking Ciel and his faults (he beat out Will as my fourth favorite character because of his progression; poor Will >_>) Ack! So far away! D: But sooner than I'd thought....
Shadow
Shadow
Well...on the plus side, all the ones I have are between $12 and $13 USD, so...that's not as bad as some manga I've seen. (I wonder why it's more expensive that Death Note....) And you could probably find cheaper copies on Amazon. *thinks reading is an expensive hobby* XD
Rebel Dynasty
Rebel Dynasty
When he was crying and begging Ciel not to kill him, I felt pity, since Ciel would have been killing him for the wrong reason. Yeah, Will didn't get much screen time, unfortunately. ^^; Grell cracks me up...and I knew the Undertaker would be someone special, right off the hop. ;)
Rebel Dynasty
Rebel Dynasty
And that's not bad, at all! More expensive than Death Note, eh? Hmm...I've watched all of that one, too. Would you say the manga for both series' illuminates the characters better? And agreed, lol; but hey, reading is a good hobby to have. ^^ Keeps the mind sharp.
Shadow
Shadow
Yeah, that scene was hard to watch. *was kinda ****ed at Sebby for manipulating Ciel at that time, as well* Yep. =( Will's awesome! Though he gets a ton more screentime in the manga . Grell is hilarious. XD *hopes she'd be like Grell if she was a man* Undertaker. <3 I wish they would have used more of his role from the manga....*just hopes Toboso doesn't use him as her fall back reason for "weird stuff" happening*
Shadow
Shadow
Well, DN's anime & manga are almost exactly the same. 'Cept Matt's more important in the manga & Mello & Near's relationship is explained a little better. But, BB's anime & manga are...different. The manga's more insight into Ciel & Sebby's minds. Undertaker's a MUCH bigger role. Ronald has more screentime. There's more about the servants, Lizzy's family (& her), & Lau. And Snake is in it. <3
Rebel Dynasty
Rebel Dynasty
Yeah, I was mad at Seb, too. But, I guess it's just part of his demon nature. You can tell he cares more for Ciel beyond just wanting his soul. Matt? *Tries remembering who Matt is, lol* I like the idea of getting inside their heads a bit more. I'd heard BB's anime was only loosely based on the manga, so that makes sense. *Also doesn't know who Snake is* T_T
Shadow
Shadow
I agree. I don't really get the people who say Sebby's just after Ciel as a meal. For some reason, they're a ship I can't get into, but I do think there's some kind of emotional attachment there...even in the manga when they go out of their way to be the bane of each other's existence at times. *only brought up the ship thing cuz the last chapter had Sebby & Ciel naked in a giant pot together & so...reasons* >_>
