I'm in double A heaven right now, with the AAA industry being a flaming pile nowadays, I've been taking refuge in lesser budget titles. Damn was it worth it. There's absolute gems in the less mainstream scene.
Metal Gear Solid is, as a series, absolutely ****ing amazing... to cure your insomnia.
MY GOD, is that **** boring. It's so infested with loooooooooong and frequent cutscenes they're barely even games, might as well have been visual novels rather than a poor excuse for stealth "games".
People who say they like flaws or rough features about a game because they make it "more unique", "quirky", and "interesting" are just coping. Flaws are flaws. Period.
This game legit feels like a 2D DMC game. The free form combat system works on the same principle of stringing single moves together rather than having dial-in combos.
I look at that video and it totally looks like a DMC combo mad clip. I'm having a blast with this game.
The Lost Crown... Took a while for me to get through my backlog and finally play it, but damn. Now THIS is how you reboot Prince of Persia, Ubisoft. Superb game.
I'm not into metroidvania games and even I am loving this.
I don't think I recall anything in cinema history that gets me the same chills as when he chants for death with his men in Return of the King. The charge of the Rohirrim was something special. Not even Aragorn's speech at the Black Gate compares to Theoden's at Minas Tirith imo.
Where the hell is this coming from. Lack of skill? **** at the game? Notice how my post doesn't mention the combat mechanics or the difficulty and it's pretty much all about how the overall vibe of the game just didn't do it for me in terms of how the horror and action elements fought each other...
If your game's difficulty comes from being poorly programmed (enemies able to compenetrate walls and hit you through them while you can't do the same), and relying on sneaky douchebag tactics like a hidden enemy coming out of nowhere to push you off a ledge or a massive boulder dropping on you...
It has aged like milk, let's be honest. It's clunky in almost every aspect and when you examine it without the lenses of bias, its positives really do basically just come down to art design and atmosphere, and even those are a double edged sword.
There are plenty of games out there that mix...
