Its nearly impossible to determinenthe exact year of the games but i just wonder if they at least takes place in the 21st century? In DMC5 we see what look to be modern day cars but still there are phone booths everywhere. I can understand Dante just being old timey but nero always seemed a bit more modern despite being from fortuna. Basically my point is no one in these games seems to own any technology past the early to mid 90's despite the world them seeming a bit more modern
They are in modern age i think but can you image a smart phone in a dmc game? I mean it would be a bit out of place I guess
There are phone booth because the developer take inspiration from Landon for red grave city, see the bridge the street ecc, they are like London but is is unknown if the game take place in england
Also the dmc universe is a mist of modern and ancient architecture, in the anime you can see old car but modern environment in town and some people are dressed like people from the 90s somebody from the 80s... Dmc is it s own universe, I don't think we should compare it to real life, it's not like resident evil or metal gear, dmc look like a mix from different time and different cultures
Dmc 1 look like a medievil set whit Gothic architecture
Dmc 2 had futuristic city and futuristic helicopter but at the same Time there are egiptian like environment and the villagge of the first mission look like an Italian city know as Matera
Dmc 3 had an 80s city and the rest is ghotic
Dmc 4 is Gothic but had futuristic environments like agnus lab
Dmc 5 had a modern city and the underworld
So as I sayd before dmc is its own universe that probably take place in the modern time but we can't compare it to our modern time
