I know Original Dante's were given to him by Nell when she was dying in the novel. But what about the reboot? Does it ever going into detail about them?
I think it was left to him by Sparda like how Rebellion was left to him through the angel tatoo

It doesnt go into it but I think E&I are demon made guns

I believe he inherited them from Sparda along with Rebellion. There isn't a whole lot of information regarding them, but design documents mention how both Rebellion and E&I were made with the idea of being forged supernaturally. It's also rather obvious the pistols are supernatural, given their grips.

And now that I think about it, it makes sense how they're different, because there are many subtle explanations for game mechanics in DmC: weapon switching is possible because Rebellion transforms, passages are blocked by a sentient world, and firearms have unlimited ammunition because they are supernatural in nature, firing enchanted, magical rounds.

Here's a fun fact. Did you guys know Dante got Rebellion before Ebony and Ivory?
According to the comic. Before then, he was street fighting.

If only they had more time to have this Fight Club-ish scenario where the grand prize was Ebony and Ivory.

How so? I don't remember anything in the comic mentioning that :x

When Dante speaks about his past in DmC, it shows him unarmed fighting hands up.

There is no sign of Ebony and Ivory until after the comic. Now that's not solid enough right? Ok. In the comic, Dante is being tormented by demons and is practically defenseless until he gains Rebellion and escapes. Where was Ebony and Ivory during all of this? I wanna think locked away or stripped from him, but that wouldn't make any sense seeing as Dante reveals in DmC against the Hunter that he's used bullets to thwart off demons and it hasn't failed him until now.

I think Dante inherited Rebellion, killed demons until he got Ebony and Ivory. He may have gotten those guns during his escape.

He beat two separate demon cops to death, with his bare hands, and took the guns as trophies
They were both interrogating him (using physical torture):

One decided to play the "Good Cop" --

-- the other decided to play the "Bad Cop" --

Thus, "Ebony" (Good) and "Ivory" (Evil).

[Elephant poaching by way 'rebellious demon hunting' -- "Evil"]

[They didn't know he was a nephilim until Mundus (finally) noticed him on camera in that nightclub he went to.]

And yeah, I said "white" was "evil". Just a little harmless ribbing, you know.

Exactly what part is this where he's fighting unarmed with his hands up? When he's part of a riot and he's pushing against some cops? That's not indicative of a lack of any sort of weaponry, just that he isn't about using his guns (or sword) on people who aren't demons.

In the comic, Dante is in Hellfire, which is a prison, of course they took away and locked up whatever weapons they knew he had on him, but he then also got out, taking his effects with him.

And really, you can't really take a lot of what is shown in the comic as it is anyway, because it contradicts what the game tells us. Man...why is it no supplemental reading material can jive with the games...?

About all you can get from it is that Vergil helped Kat, they fell in love (way too quickly), then Vergil wiped the memories of that love from their minds so he wouldn't be tempted to risk his life and ambitions for her safety. Everything else is just...a horribly paced mess.

But this is my theory. Only thing I stated as a fact was that Dante got Rebellion before Ebony and Ivory. So, I think I'm more right than wrong in my theory.
