Should even one single case pop up in a random U.S. city, that narrative will fall apart instantly. If someone in Georgia, Ohio, New York or any other state checked themselves into a hospital and are found to be infected with Ebola it will prove without a shadow of a doubt that all CDC containment efforts have failed.


In such an instance where Ebola is found to be in the “wild” anywhere in the continental United States you can be certain that panic will follow.


Take a look at the following photo. It was taken last week in Toledo about an hour after the city announced that their water supply had been contaminated with toxins:

Notice how every drop of pure H2O has been removed from the shelves.


Imagine for a moment what grocery store shelves, pharmacies and hardware supply stores are going to look like within 12 hours of an Ebola infection or outbreak being announced on U.S. soil.


Things will happen fast.

Understanding that our lives will change drastically if the population is faced with a pandemic and being prepared for this can help you make better choices toward the well being of your family. Some changes could be:


-Challenges or shut downs of business commerce


-Breakdown of our basic infrastructure: communications, mass transportation, supply chains


-Payroll service interruptions


-Staffing shortages in hospitals and medical clinics


-Interruptions in public facilities – Schools, workplaces may close, and public gatherings such as sporting events or worship services may close temporarily.


-Government mandated voluntary or involuntary home quarantine.


Essentially, once this happens the whole system could potentially go into lock-down.

Okay, hold on a second. Before anyone goes backing their bags and fleeing to Canada, consider a few things:

1. Ebola outbreaks have always been in tropical climates.
2. Dead bodies are being thrown into streets.
3. West African countries don't have the same qualities of healthcare found in the US and Europe.
4. Doctors in the infected areas aren't following the super strict destination/prevention procedures that are standard in places like the US, Canada, and most of Europe.

Put those things together and you get the conclusion that the outbreak is occurring in a part of the world that is ill equipped to deal with it. Also, even if the virus was to come to the US or Europe, December, January, February, and March would give it a cold welcome. *ba-dum-tiss*

We'll be fine. There's a reason why crap like this doesn't happen in the US or Canada. *spoiler alert* It's 'cause we're awesome. :cool:

All I see is "what if?". I don't think this is something to fret over, and this is coming from a hypochondriac.

Imagine, for a moment, that this has likely happened before, without those in charge letting us know.

Viruses survive better in cold temperatures than in warm temps. Were you thinking of bacteria?

Ack that's right! I was thinking of bacteria.

Weird then, that Ebola outbreaks occur in tropical climates. I wonder why that is? O_o

I sure hope so.

Also, lets hope the virus doesn't go airborne (a few "specialists" are debating on whether or not there could be an entirely new strain out there).

A species of bat native to parts of Africa is thought to be the reservoir for the virus.

It's like how in NA we have bats that can potentially carry rabies. The ebola virus isn't as fatal as untreated rabies, but the problem is that it can survive for weeks on surfaces (much like the flu).

Yeah I remember reading that too. So obviously the solution here is to kill all the bats. /sarcasm maybe

According to the news, someone in Madrid has this now. But that's because he was helping out where the outbreak is. Though why they let this person back into Madrid even though he had been in an infected area is beyond me. Surely they should close the boarders until they know it is safe for people to leave the country. This is how things become pandemic.

I just hope they can somehow contain it and find some way to help the people already infected.

It's the same scenario as the two US citizens. This was done so that they could get the best care possible in their home country.
