there was a light novel that was a prequel to DMC2 and I felt upon reading the description that this was what they could have done for a DMC2 game instead of what we got because this actually does feel like a sequel for DMC1.

Am i on the right track or full of stars?

It was written after the DMC2 game release, I believe, but the novel's events occur prior to the game.
