All points are true, except one. No clarification/confirmation that Sparda is actually dead, per-say.

in the first game. i don't remember if it was the intstruction booklet or the opening cutscene but both of them had something about sparda and one of them said that sparda " reghned in the human world until his death" therefore he had to have died for that line to mean anything. we don't know when or how but he is dead.

It just says that he is dead for effect. We can't just assume he died, when they never said how he died. It just said until his death. He is probably presumed dead because he hasn't been around. Maybe he is stuck somewhere? Until they properly explain his story and say how he died, we can assume he is still alive. Whether the introduction said otherwise.

that is not the way things work. it said he is dead so until something says he's alive he is dead.

DS13 is right, Sparda is dead. The whole idea that he isn't started with DMC2 or maybe DMC3. Demons are not immortal, and Sparda sealed away his power, so it isn't really that outrageous.

Dobo, allow me to shamelessly plug myself here, and direct you to a fic that was written detailing Sparda's awakening and rebellion. It isn't canonical per se, but it is as close as you're going to get.

Says who?

A Legend such a Sparda, dead? Whereas Mundus, weaker than Sparda, clearly, still manages to keep on living. Not possible. Think about that logically. If you claim Sparda to be dead, surely you should say that Mundus must be dead by now, whereas he isn't.

Legends tend to be dead. Sparda was unable to kill mundus so mundus is still alive we know that because mundus was the final boss in dmc1 and even then was just resealed. for sparda at full power to be killed makes no sense but sparda sealed his powers in the temen ni gru making him alot weaker and therfore easier to kill. then there is the whole thing with the woman he loved being brutally murded and sparda not being there to stop it. but none of that is why we can say sparda is dead we can say it because sparda was said to be dead the first time he was mentioned. not really any way you can argue around that. if a novel or the manga was the only place to say it you could say sparda is still around but the first game, the most canon thing you could possibly name, said it.

This isn't DBZ. Power levels aren't so distinct nor are they the only factors in battle.

You have to remember Sparda sealed away his power and lived in the human world for 2000 years after however long he had been alive in the demon world. Mundus, on the other hand, has not forsaken any of his power, has been living in the demon world, and has been sealed away. It could be that Mundus just naturally has a longer life expectancy than Sparda.

If Sparda is somehow alive, it causes far more problems than him being dead. Given that Sparda has been confirmed dead by the narrator and pretty much everyone else, and because it is too complicated for him to still be alive, he is dead.
