Welding the Classic and Reboot worlds

How would you weld and merge the Classic and Reboot worlds in a manner that is consistent with elements of either universe.

When an author or creator takes two previously unrelated works and puts them into a single, shared continuity.
Sci-fi and fantasy authors don't always write all their novels in the same continuity. A budding new author's first published book might be about space pirates in the 27th century, while his sophomore effort might instead be about 21st century scientists reverse-engineering a flying saucer. In response to popular demand, he might end up writing a sequel to one, or even both of these novels. Flash forward about 20 years — the author has grown wealthy from writing stories about Captain Flash Orangebeard and Dr. Smith of Mars, but he's running out of ideas and the two long-running series are in danger of getting stale. What does he do to keep the public's interest, and breathe new life into the storylines?
Combine them!
Many long-lived genre authors tend to resort to Canon Welding, usually at a later point in their career. They combine two or more distinct series they've created into a single continuity. This isn't just a one-off Crossover; for series with radically different premises, the foundations of one or both stories can be altered forever.
By combining the two series together, the author can introduce fans of one series to characters they may not be familiar with, inducing them to go out and buy the works in that series, and hopefully attract high sales from fans of both storylines. When done well, it can add a more epic feel to the tale, explore aspects of the two storylines not previously delved into, and make lots of money for the author and his publisher (and there are many examples of this, perhaps most famously The Lord of the Rings). When done poorly, especially with stories with radically different settings or styles, it looks and feels like a shallow money-grab and can potentially be a shark-jumping moment for both series.

Wouldn't be a fan of the two Dante's in the same universe unless it was a short interdimensional arc in a dlc

Guessing they’d probably have a negative reaction to each other at first resulting in a little scuffle until they realised they both had very similar goals and decide to work together.

I meant having one single Dante with the history of both versions melded together for example.

That I could maybe get behind as long as it's main series Dante and not reboot one

I'm all on board with the two meeting, just imagine how Lady and Trish would react with dealing with two of them?

In the 2nd light novel, there was a device called the beast's head which allowed Dante to travel to other dimensions/timelines etc. So you could just have a storyline where one of the Dante's finds the device and gets sucked into the other world. This premise can also be used for a potential DMC/Bayonetta crossover.

For classic series into the reboot, you would just do more stories and bring stuff over.

To put the reboot into the classic series is harder than vice versa. A lot of it can work but you'd have to twist it a bit.

1. Eva obviously can't be an angel but you could have her become an angel by going to heaven after she died and getting recruited by heaven to be one etc.
2. Someone else said you could have Nero's mom be an angel having him fill the half-angel/half-demon role.
3. Or you could have the Classic version of Kat be Nero's mom. Her death pushed Vergil to put Nero in Fortuna.
4. Dante probably didn't have a good childhood as he became a mercenary before he was a devil hunter (the 1st light novel). So you would just do more with that aspect of his life. I saw Dante as a knight in sour armor because of his portrayal in DMC3 but I could be wrong.
5. Whether he grew up with Vergil is anyone's guess and can go either way. Make a choice and stick with it. I would probably do a story where Dante and Vergil worked together but split ways at the end. This could be a new story or remixed into the manga if you adapt the manga into a movie.
6. In the manga, Dante would live in a trailer before he takes the job and gets enough money to buy the office space.
7. DmC Mundus's plan to rule the world through debt is feasible but you need another character to fill his role. As I don't see Classic Mundus giving a darn about that (he's old school blood and conquest kinda guy). So another character- may be one of his underlings would take his place.
8. Limbo would still exist but it's either perverted from its original purpose or really new and limited to this single location.
9. DmC Vergil's role would be filled by another character- I don't see Classic Vergil doing anything DmC Vergil did outside of shooting Lilith.
