Parralel universe or non canonical

All the devs of this game said was that it was a parallel universe not that it was non canonical

And DMC is known for having crazy settings (in 3 a portal to/from hell opens and lets in demons to earth) So what if say a interdimensional gap is opened letting this new Dante into the world of the original in the game after this one

Is that why they slipped parallel universe on it rather than non canon
can someone please reply

We won't know till this thing comes out.

I just think they said it to cover their asses.

This game is non-canon tho, he said it in the interviews for games con.

Would people want this game to be canon?

The great pretender.
No. The reason they said this is because, apparently, some people were not listening- or did not understand- when the words DMC REBOOT were constantly spoken since the announcement. People kept saying things like "Why is this different?" "Dante always had white hair!" "Rebellion doesn't look like that!" So, they called it a 'rebirth'. Folks were still confused. Then they used the word, 're-imagining' in an attempt to communicate the artistic freedom they've been taking advantage of and that this game is not connected to the original series, But durr... There are those still confused, so, they called it a parallel universe to finally clarify the nature of this game. It is no more a parallel universe to DMC then Spider-man's earth is parallel to Superman's. This is an action game based on the Devil May Cry series.

They actually talked about DmC Dante in comparison to DMC Dante despite it being a reboot.
So they confused people.

in this case parallel universe and non-canon mean the same thing. this game does not affect the original Devil May Cry continuity in any way.

They actually talked about DmC Dante in comparison to DMC Dante despite it being a reboot.

they talked about DmC Dante in comparison to the original Dante because it is a reboot. why would they pretend it is a completely original game?

Its both.

Just like Spider man and Ultimate Spider man.

It was said in 2 interviews already that this game is not a part of the established canon and is also set in a parallel world.

Spider man Ultimate has no bearing on the original Spider man's story (minus a few instances when the 2 meet up in games and other media) but other than that they both have their own story and own world.

DmC is a reboot of the Devil May Cry franchise. This means no more 'original DMC' games will be released. No more Nero, no original Dante and original Vergil.

Some people still believe that DMC 5, 6 etc. will be released, even with the new DmC coming up. This is NOT the case; Capcom is starting over with the DMC franchise.

Guys, it's a reboot with re-images of the game where a character was reborn into a parallel universe! Makes sense right? :D
But seriously. Parallel. Two lines that are parallel never touch. Therefore, the events of this game will not touch on the events of the original series. It is unrelated in story in every way--in theory, at least.
I guess you can call this theory...the Ninja Theory? YYYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!!

In the interview it was said that the parallel universe that they were talking about is actually Limbo, the world that dante get's draged into in the game. Ofcource, if you look at the other interviews they obviously mean that the games are set in diferent worlds.

As I said, it takes place in a different universe than that of the original DMC. The game is a reboot of the franchise.
It is also non-canonical.

DmC is not part of the same continuity as Devil May Cry 1-4 so there is no reason Capcom wouldn't be able to make Devil May Cry 5.

Yes, Darkslayer13, you're missing the point. Sure, they could make DMC5, but why didn't they just do that then?
Because DmC is a reboot of the franchise; they're starting over with the series. That's what 'reboot' means... starting over.

Of course, if Capcom's goal is to gain new fans, then they could just create DmC alongside DMC5; one for the new fans, and one for the old fans.
But since they called DmC a 'reboot of the series', I don't think that's gonna happen.

Interesting.

Last I checked series like Batman and Spiderman have received numerous reboots.

But obviously the original comics are still going on.

So according to your logic, the old batman and spider man comics should have ceased production and than they should have only continued with the new reboot storylines.

But that is obviously not the case now is it?

Fact is if Capcom wanted they could easily do a reboot and continue DMC5.

After all this reboot is nothing but a attempt from Capcom to gain more fans and more importantly MONEY.

If it bombs or if fan outcry is high enough for DMC5 than Its entirely possible that they would go and make DMC5.

And even if neither of those 2 things happen I fail to see the reason why they could not do both side by side.

One to please the old fans while the other brings in the new fans.

why has everyone i met on this forum portrayed Capcom as in it for the money only
Capcoms titles are usually high quality
Remember when EA were viewed as Greedy and Evil and then they released Dead space and everyone stopped calling them that all of the sudden

What does their games being "High Quality" have to do with them being greedy?

And Capcom is portayed that way based on their actions so its not like people are calling them money hungry for no reason.

Take Resident Evil for example.

The majority of the fan outcry was for it to return to its classic puzzles and horror style. But instead we got RE5 which was mostly just a big action movie put into a game. They did that because they thought that it would appeal to a wider audience. If they trully cared about the fans than they would have wen't back to the series roots. And now we are going to get yet another action oriented RE game title Operation Racoon City.

And lets not forget the 2 mega man games they cancelled this year.

If they trully cared more about the fans other than their wallets than they would have kept making those 2 games that the mega man fans so desperately wanted to see.

Instead they decided to cancel BOTH of them and blame it on the fans.

And now its happening with DMC.

If they trully wanted to please the fans than they would have answered all the unanswered questions in the DMC storyline with DMC5. Instead they chose to go with the "western reboot" approach inorder to bring in more fans and obviously money.

Capcom is a BUSINESS dude.

They will forever be about the money.

SO please do not make it seem as if we are calling Capcom something they are not.

Why would they be in it for the fun of it? Do you think they can make games from hopes and dreams?
And EA made a crap load of money and dropped 2 dvd's to boot from Dead Space
