Will Capcom kill DMC?

Frazz

General gamer
Given the recent news that DMC4:SE has to sell well in order for the series to continue I merely ask... Will this be the end of the series? I think so, as much as I don't want it to, because the fact that SE is digital only means that it has turned off many potential customers and it has no presence on sites like Amazon. There are people that don't have good internet and can't download it etc... I'm afraid it may be the end of the line folks
:(

Yet they give the DmC Definitive Edition a physical copy... It's almost like they want to continue the horrible horrible DmC series with all the bad dialogue and gameplay...

No, I don't think they'll continue the series.

There might be something at E3, but even if that were the case, it would most likely get canceled.

I hear ya, I personally can't help but feel this whole thing was rigged. Yes they claim they weren't trying to make the games compete with each other. But come on, of course they'd deny it. Luckily for me though, I recently relocated, so being able to download the game (though I'd still prefer a physical copy) is a possibility.

I just hope the game gets enough support for Capcom to at-least consider developing a DMC5

Ooooooor! They could just be saying that to get people to buy the SE. Capcom is strapped for cash, so I wouldn't put it passed them to pull some bs like that. But at the same time, since they are so tight on cash, and since they said remakes are going to be a big part of their business strategy, they could be looking to see if DMC5 is a possibility. Look at it this way, they know that Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter are breadwinners. Those are guaranteed to do well. Whereas DMC is iffy. Sure, it was a big deal back in the day, but it's been years since the last one came out. It could be Capcom just isn't sure if investing the time and money into DMC5 would warrant a big enough return. Sure, a lot of fans are begging for it. But there's a difference between saying you're going to buy something and actually going out and buying it. I have games I've been wanting to play for years and still haven't gotten around to it yet.

what i want to know is what capcom thinks is selling well ?, this game is 25 bucks if you do download it and at that price point i think it is going to do great, but will it do capcom great ?.

it looks like they are trying to see if DMC4:SE can do the same as the resident evil hd remaster back at the first of the year. if this is not the best selling game on PlayStation Network it will be the second or third at the least, the only thing it would have to go up against is batman however i don't see a lot of people downloading that game because you can just go out and buy the Disc.

even if it dose not Quite Reach that level i can see capcom doing what they have with Street fighter 5 and making it only for PS4 and PC..i would rather that happen then see it Die.

In the west. As far as I know, that game is practically non existent in Japan, both physically and digitally. So it's got a way worse treatment overall.

As for the matter at hand, man, they've been messing with this franchise for so long now, bad business decision after bad business decision.
It's funny because their interest for the original series seems still there, so I gotta give Meg reason and recognize what she said is the most likely and most reasonable answer.

I highly doubt Capcom would kill off Devil May Cry. All this marketing with Devil May Cry stuff like the live play with Sengoku Basara, The costumes in Monster Hunter, Two remastered Devil May Crys of both the original and the reboot, costumes in Sengoku Basara 4, etc. I don't think Devil May Cry is going anywhere soon.

Japanese devs use that "no-more-sequels-if-the-latest-game-doesn't-sell" ploy pretty often. Shigeru Miyamoto stated that if Star Fox 64's remake on the 3DS didn't sell well, they'd discontinue the series.

Star Fox 64 3D sold miserably. And three years later, we still got an announcement for a brand-new Star Fox on Wii U.

Take these kinds of statement with a vial or two of salt. You'll sleep easier that way.

Too much DMC related stuff going on lately for it to be thrown away. It might not be their best selling franchiese, but it still was quite profitable until DmC.
The fact is they resucitated an 8 years old game and put some work into it. Gameplaywise and, even to a very lame extent for what we know, storywise. Could it be a goodby? Maybe, but I wouldn´t think they´ve got that kind o generosity in them.
Of course DMC5 could not be present at E3, but that still wouldn´t mean anything.
In regards to have a DMC5 depending on the Special Edition sales....again nothing new, they want it to sell.
The problem I have with this selling strategy is that they seem to have forgotten one simple fact. The buyer doesn´t need to proove himself, it´s the seller who has to convince him to buy their products. Certainly not by blackmailing him. Bad move Capcom, but what was I really expecting.

They're going to continue the series, I mean, DMC 4 SE will sell perfectly fine since is the firts game that you can use all the characters, and so much merchandising coming up. That didn't happened with Megaman and now it's dead except for cameos, crossovers and stuff like Smash.

Why do people think DMC is dead just because we're still not hearing anything about a DMC 5? That doesn't mean anything. Devil May Cry is just as alive and prominent as it was when they released DMC 4. Whether people like it or not, DmC kept it going for better or worse but it still held its ground and still creates controversial talk to this day. There's been an even greater increase in excitement and anticipation among many other things because of DMC 4: SE. A special edition to a game that's now 8 years old!

No, it isn't dead. They probably aren't entirely sure on the direction they need to go with DMC, hence no DMC 5 yet. But that doesn't make DMC any less relevant right now, because we haven't had DMC 5 for ages now so nothing has exactly changed in that respect.

If it's dead to you then fine. Do what you want.

However, I'm a Devil May Cry fan for life. Regardless of whether or not I get another game.

That wasn't really the point of this topic though. The question is asking if we think Capcom is going to be killing DMC. Not just to say that it's dead. The OP's just asking for our opinions.
