You Know My Name~ My personal theme song for DmC Dante!

Don't hate on me, but I heard this song and automatically thought of DmC Dante.

This is my personal view of this song, comparing it to the events of DmC: Devil May Cry. I heard this song a few minutes ago, and realized that it fit Dante and the events of DmC perfectly.The actual lyrics will be in normal font, while my thoughts and comparisons to Dante and DmC will be in italics.

Red is Dante
Blue is Vergil
Pink is Kat
Purple is Mudus

If you take a life do you know what you'll give?
Odds are you won't like what it is.

Kat asking Dante if he would stick with them to the end.


I've seen angels fall from blinding heights
But you yourself are nothing so divine
I feel like this is Dante himself saying this.This perfectly fits Dante describing Vergil, describing him to be as good as an angel. To Dante he was almost one until Vergil betrayed that brotherly trust, wanting to become the next tyrant. Therefore, he fell as a fallen. "But you yourself are nothing so divine." The TRUE intentions of Vergil coming out to Dante.

Just next in line
Dante's feelings at the start of the game. Just another one in line, not really caring what happens to him or others.

I feel like these words are exactly from Mundus, I automatically thought of him when this chorus started. Mundus telling that he better get ready, no one will be there yo save you. The odds are against him, nothing will work. "And I will replace you."-MEANING, he's going to rip his heart out, just like he did to Eva. He'll suffer the same fate. The prize that he may get from killing him will never last, there will always be another evil out there to claim him. "It longs to kill you, are you willing to die?"

In a nutshell: "Are you willing to die for your mankind, Dante?"

This is something that would be directly from Dante. You know his name, Dante.

If you come inside things will not be the same
When you return to the night
And if you think you've won

The game that we've all been playing.
Words directly from Dante. After awakening from the game that he's been playing his whole life, he's gained his Devil Trigger. Things will never be the same, Mundus think's he's won.

I've seen diamonds cut through harder men
Than you yourself
Dante has defeated Mundus, a demon king nearly all by himself. Though only one challenge remains, Mundus. I imagine Dante saying these words to Vergil as they near their battle.
But if you must pretend
You may meet your end
If Vergil wishes to pretend that Dante will just let him rule the world, and if he wishes so then he better be ready for a fight. Dante's words to Vergil.

Vergil's words to Dante after he is defeated. "Your not human, Dante, and you never will be."

Dante speaking about who he doesn't know who he is anymore.

I actually started an amv with Vergil and Kyuzou (Samurai Seven) waaaay back when this song first came out.... however, I never finished it, lol. But, I don't really regret it all that much, especially since your post was way better. Followed.

Speaking of emotion, I think one of the best elements in DmC was the emotional connection made with the main characters. It really helped bring the story to life.

Oh my I agree. While I loved the classic DMC's, they didn't have that level of element. But this new DmC actually did some justice for them, and I actually cried when Vergil said, "I loved you, brother." I'm making a simple, yet effective amv showing the relationship of brothers, brotherhood.

I actually thought about this a few months back (I think I said it in the 'what are you listening to' thread). But yeah, this song does seem to go with DmC. I'm looking forward to your amv ^_^

You know, you could turn the whole song around and it's more like a warning to Mundus from Vergil with the lines 'if you take a life do you know what you'll give? Odds are you won't like what it is'. Mundus kills Eva, then has Lilith and his spawn killed in return.

Then the whole 'arm yourself-- and I will replace you.' Again Vergil going after Mundus and wanting to take his place.

The game that we've all been playing.' Mundus takes Kat hostage and thinks he can get 'the Nephilim' but then Vergil changes the plan, captures Lilith and his spawn and gains the upper hand from right under Mundus.

But you yourself are nothing so divine' Eva's death at Mundus' hands and then how easily he can take Mundus down.

'But if you must pretend
You may meet your end' Mundus thinks he is like God in the human world, but it's his pride and rage that gets the better of him and gets him killed.

By the merciless eyes of deceit?' I could take that line as Vergil asking Dante to stand against the demons, who are the personification of deceit, and do all the work for him in front of the cameras while Vergil hides in the shadows.

You know my name' Vergil is cold and his actions show this. As for the last part, Mundus doesn't know his name, but I could take that ironicaly because after all Vergil will do to Mundus, he should have come to know his name by the end.

So, that's me alternative take on the lyrics. ^_^
