It kind of saddens me how Capcom keeps on beating that bloodied horse carcass. Konami are kind of playing catch up and doing it too, but with more favourable results.
Too many times, Capcom (or the third parties they hire), likes to base a story about Raccoon City in, invariably, a lot more games, films, books, and even a Netflix show. Only now with characters being played by people who are of different ethnics to what we've been seeing for the longest time. Why even bother?
OK. If you left that out, the story basically gets milked. I cannot count on two hands how many times Capcom has taken the plot back to 1998. This is questionable to me, since if you play RE3 (ideally the original, and not the crappy 2020 demake), you already know the way it ended, like with the city being blown up, the main heroes saying their vows, and Umbrella therefore being exposed / outed because of the viral outbreak that occurred in the region.
The Paul Anderson movies are genuinely hated by fans. I do think the 2002 film is quite good, despite not having some things in common with the games beyond the general premise being recycled. You know? The lab. The soldiers. The zombies. But kudos for having the iconic lazer trap appear in some of the games. I recall it was in RE4, TUC, and Ada's side quest DLC. Outside of that, I just tire of Capcom going back to 1998 again and again to rehash the same plot aspects, as if they are a one trick pony.
It's a pitiful thing to do when you can barely move forward.
