PlayStation Vita release date and cost announced
Sony have revealed the release date and price of its new PlayStation Vita console at E3 in Los Angeles - although the UK details are yet to be confirmed.

It was announced that the PSVita will hit shelves in time for Christmas, and will set people back €249.99 for the basic Wi-Fi version.
If people want to splash out a bit more cash, they can purchase a more expensive 3G model, which has a price tag of €299.99.
A UK price for the console has not yet been released, however - a direct currency conversion would see it costing roughly £223 for Wi-Fi only and £268 for the 3G version, although in all likelihood it will end up being a little more expensive than that. CVG reports a source close to the company saying that it will likely cost around £235.
Sony said that an official announcement on the UK price would be made 'later in the year'.
The general consensus is from journalists and industry watchers that the Vita - which is named after the Latin word for life - is good value for money, considering the high quality of its graphics, which are reputed to be close to the PlayStation 3 in quality.
There is likely to be high demand given that this is Sony's biggest release since the PS3 five years ago.
The PSVita allows players to connect to one another via mobile phone networks and Wi-Fi hotspots. Users will be able to take on other PSVita owners, as well as people using PlayStation 3 consoles over the PlayStation Network.

Wii U: Nintendo Wii 2 revealed at E3 with touchscreen controller
Nintendo have revealed that their new console successor to the Wii will be called the 'Wii U' - and, as expected, will come with a touchscreen controller.

The Wii U will feature controller with a six-inch touchscreen that enables more kinds of interaction with the console - letting you play games either on the TV or on the controller's screen, acting as a kind of augmented reality second screen overlay for the action on the big screen, and interacting with other peripherals.
Nintendo said that it 'removes the traditional barriers between games, players and the TV by creating a second window into the video game world.'
It also seems to represent Nintendo's attempt to wipe out the division between consoles designed for hardcore and casual gamers. Nintendo's Satoru Iwata said that until now, gaming industry had 'failed to create a platform equally satisfying for all users'.
He said that the Wii U would have a 'wide appeal for gamer - wider even than the Wii' and that it would 'let everyone see games in a different way'.
It was also announced that an impressive array of games, likely to appeal to core gamers, would be coming to Wii U - including Batman: Arkham City, Ghost Recon Online, an Assassin's Creed game, Darksiders 2, DiRT, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Metro Last Light, Ninja Gaiden 3
Also announced was The Lego City Stories, an open world game with 'a whole city full of Lego vehicles', that would be coming exclusively to Nintendo - both the Wii U and the 3DS.
The Wii U will be backwards-compatible, both with Wii games and all existing Wii controllers. The controller features traditional button controls (including two analog Circle Pads) as well as an accelerometer and gyroscope for more control options.
Also on board the controller are camera, a microphone, stereo speakers, a sensor strip and a stylus - but in case anybody's thinking that this means they could just use it as an iPad -style tablet, Nintendo said that it will only work when wirelessly connected to the Wii U console, which provides its processing power.
The Wii U will be out in 2012 - although no exact release date, or suggestion of price, has been revealed yet.
We'll have one of the first hands-on looks at the Wii U in a few hours time, so check back then.
