It hasn't been done away with, they just decided to focus on other stuff for the newer scenes they've featured.

Not sure if it'll actually be a big point to the game, but it's still talked about, at least.

Hopefully not, I was quite interested to see what NT ended up doing with it. Dante was very scrawny and malnourished, so perhaps it took place during his harsh orphanage days, memories of which We may find scattered throughout the game.

The Rose Memory system could be what will fills us in, Blue roses for Eva, Red for Sparda, and Black for Dante.

Meaning that fans still talk about the ward or NT is talking about it?

It's mentioned in the game at one point that we know of, and will probably have mention elsewhere. The 2010 announcement used it to really show what this Dante went through, while in the game it might only be something talked about, and not elaborated on with scenes like the trailer.

There's still a lot we don't know, it's a thirteen hour game with total cutscene length rivaling feature films, so...just gotta wait and see, I guess.

But, to put it simply - no, it hasn't been abandoned.

Some elements of it are still present. I believe that in the Bob Barbas fight he mentions him being in some kind of facility where he killed a "nurse" when trying to escape.

But he was eight at that time. in the 2010 trailer he looked in his teens in the psycho word, and when fighting the demons, he looked at least 22.

I'm not so sure they'll actually show it, but it's definitely still part of the story.

Subject #64432B still lives in our hearts.

It would be cool if they made reference to that, but I think the closest we'll get is when Bob mentions that 'nurse' Dante kills.

We all remember the early DmC trailers (shudder) right? Sooooo, what happened to Dante and the psychiatric ward? Was it abandoned?
I don't think it's gone. It could depict Dante when he was locked up years before the game starts. Didn't it mentioned torture went on?

That or Dante gets held captive and it still happens during the game events o.o

I hope its still in the game, because it depicts dante being vulnerable and looks pretty important to the story.
Ditto. If Dante can heal himself, maybe he can't die. So that stuf in the psychiatric ward might explain that he could've suffered endless amounts of torture and shown nothing for it. That would've really messed him up psychologically and could explain why he hates the demons so much.

I believe they're saving a level where Dante will start remembering about all his suffering and torture.

Maybe we'll be seeing some kind of asylum level, where Dante slowly starts remembering how he was tortured by people ( though we know they were demons on disguise). Eventually, Dante managed to get out of such place and that's why he keeps running and hiding himself from demons.

That also explains why he hates the demons so much and why he acts they way he shows, by cursing and sometimes being agressive. So, it's not that he didn't suffer a lot in the past.
