What do you love (or hate) about DmC's story

I thought it'd be cool to just share some of our different opinions on the game. If your someone who likes DmC; tell us what you don't like about the story. If your someone who dislikes DmC; what is something you like about the new story?

But be specific; no "I like that it's a reboot" or "I don't like that Dante has changed".

For me? A while ago they released a video about Dante's past. It showed artwork of Dante with his mother in his arms, Dante with a severed demon's head, etc... I liked all that... but then there was a picture of Dante surrounded by naked women. That; even now, ****es me off. I have no trouble with sexuality in games and I think games should be free to explore any topic. But that wasn't sexuality or even establishing that Dante is a lady's man. For me it was Dante surrounded by what weren't women or people; but accessories to his "coolness". Dante smoked in the first trailer and many people called Ninja Theory out on that; because a cigarette was just a cheap accessory to make him cool. In very much the same way; I feel that's what they did here. But they did it with women.

Sooo...? Getting the opposite views out of the way someone feels about it? If you like it, say what you might not like about it, and vice versa?

Yup! Nothing's perfect and nothing is completely devoid of value.

Judging a game's story from a handful of trailers is like judging a book from the blurb on the back.
Absolutely, but we have all formed opinions one way or another by now. I think it would be nice to share something different than what we've each normally shared thus far.

i find the story kinda shallow <.< its kinda vague but in general is what im trying to say
That's the opposite of what you're supposed to do here. You're supposed to say what you like about DmC if you dislike it. I like DmC and that's why in my opening post I said what I hated about it....edit... I can kinda see how this is getting confusing,...

Since I'm excited for the game I guess I'll be looking at things that I don't quite like...

I do miss the taunts, and think they could have been easily put in as a scripted mechanic, especially since Dante spouts things during battles anyway, it could have worked if those were activated by a button. Although, I suppose that's one reason why it may seem like it's a bit easier to gain Style in battle, because you can't get a Style boost by Taunting anymore. Since I got used to Taunting more recently, I have to stop myself from just standing there and waiting for them to attack, and instead just jump right into the fray.

Speaking of the Style meter, I really like the way it works, with more feedbacks, the three S tiers being their own tiers, and bonuses from things like getting enemies to kill their own, except I don't think it should have kept your grade when inactive, just to really enforce staying active.

As a PS3 owner, I don't really care about the framerate dips, but I do find that blocky shadow thing irksome :(

As a Gunslinger, I miss Twosome Time, but Inverse Rainstorm sorta makes up for it (I love that move). I wish they would speed up the spin on Rainstorm, too. Not the whole thing, just the spinning animation.

As much as I love Limbo and it being the justification for the world "closing doors" on the player, I'll miss the magical door of anguished faces, that would turn into a hand and reach out to hit you if you got too close. I can even think of a way that still could have worked with Limbo :C

I like the new Devil Trigger, but I wish it lasted longer. I really, really hope the Trigger Crosses weren't used in the Demo, so that I know DT can last a lot longer than it did there, and I really hope it becomes easier to build up magic, because you can barely get a full meter from going through all of Under Watch on SoS, and it's gone so quickly, it feels a little wasted.

I like it.

It's the push that people in the video game world need and others to realize that all this media and consumerism that's being constantly fed down our throats is potentially killing us and ruling over everything we do.

We must face our demons.

(Damn DmC game. Brought out the inner "V" in me.>_<)

Couldn't have said it better myself. There's a reason why the story wasn't on my list of complaints.

Read my "Fair Criticism of DmC" thread for all my complaints on the game.

What do I do since I like and hate the game at the same time... Well, that's not true. I would hate to hate it and fear to love it. I guess I'll give you guys a little of both on how I feel with the story.

For the most part, I don't really know how the story is gonna go down really well but so far I'm liking the concept of Limbo and how humans are unknowingly being controlled by demons. I think it is a really interesting concept that has somehow been touched on before but never to the extent that NT is taking it with the game. I would go as far as saying that it is quite original.

On the other hand, Limbo is a huge mess. And by that I mean some stuff are still confusing the hell out of me and make no sense. Like, for example, why in the hell did Kat decided to draw a portal circle on a window in a church about 20 feet off the ground!? Disregarding the fact of how she got up there...

And if things that happen in Limbo have an echo in the real world then think about this: The entire damn city was destroyed to bits during the chasing scene in Under Watch. It was even worse than what happened to the church and the church got its tower destroyed because of it. Don't you think the entire city behind the church must have blown up or something too?

The thing about echoes was elaborated on a little bit, and was mentioned that it wasn't a direct correlation of damage in the real world and what happened in Limbo. I think there's probably some other stipulations to it as well, because it was the ferris wheel that effed up the pier, and not the Malice twisting Limbo.

As for Kat, I think it's in what she said how she "found a way out. I marked it." Meaning that the gateway was always there, and she made it visible. So it might not be that she's making the portals, but she's revealing them with her spraypaint.

Ah, that does clarify a little bit, thanks.

I really like the new artstyle for the game. It looks just gritty and dark enough to be cool, but still cheesy and over-the-top enough to not be a Christopher Nolan Batman ripoff :)

If we don't know the full game's plot, we can't judge its story...

So far, there is nothing bad about it...At least, not in my view.

Like: Almost everything but...

Dislike: No smoking and no Trish. Oh, and the Devil Trigger is a bit on the lame side. I wanted for him to turn into another being of power and I want it explained in the story. Just changing colour scheme doesn't do it for me.
