I suppose forums will always hold nostalgic value to me as well as sentimental. I met Steve on an SEO forum back in 2006, married the poor guy in 2007 and 20 years later, I'm still on the boards, albeit in a much lesser capacity than when I was in my 20s.

That's largely down to most of the users no longer being really young either - the need to win every thread isn't particularly prevalent anymore, for any of us. With great age comes...

...well, arthritis, knee problems, back problems, a growing sense of irritability, a burgeoning interest in garden centres and a desire to have a nice sit down as often as possible.

Current thoughts: So Starmer is gone and the race is on to find a new dictator for our totalitarian society. Can proudly say I did NOT vote for Labour, so I can feel good about my political choices at this stage. Anyone with half a brain can see that Labour has been able to brazenly put policies and laws in places that wrest the autonomy of the family away from the people and weaponise tragedy to make it seem palatable. The social media ban was made possible because they, in their own words, "took power" courtesy of the abominable Wellbeing Bill that should never have been passed in the first place. This is the start of it - we haven't even gotten to the downhill part yet.

Starmer says he's only ever put this country first. Yeah, mate. Just like all the other evil dictators throughout history.

Ok, so more suited for the ranting thread but whatever. It's 30°c and 500000% humidity today and I don't care.

I hope your mother recovers swiftly and all goes well. To the last part of what you said, can relate big time. Sometimes it feels like the universe is punishing you for fun. Me and my wife felt like that in 2023, and 2024 and parts of 2025 with back to back things.
 
It is hot. I'm glad to finally be back home after work at the card shop and now I'm finding ways to stay cool before I watch the football.

I was in Birmingham today and it was about 37 with zero breeze. I was out in the sun only to walk between locations, with a floppy hat on and factor 50...started to burn within 5 minutes of stepping outside.

Currently lying on my bed with the fan on and a hot water bottle filled with ice under my legs. Would prefer it if the dog didn't think I was a great place to have a nap on...66lbs of German Shepherd is unpleasant in this heat
 
Did not think 23 celcius was hot enough to cause 2nd degree sunburn and sunburn blisters, was cutting grass and tidying up trees etc outside yesterday and got scalded.

I'm lying in bed with the fan on also and an ice pack resting on me. It was very difficult to stay awake watching England draw with Ghana because it's been a long day and it was such a boring match. I'm going to knock right out now.

I think there is something fundamentally wrong with me...I keep baking when it's too hot to even blink right now.

Is this an impending perimenopause thing? Do women turn insane and bake? I don't like this...

U may be onto something, my wife is 44 and after having a mass removed and an ovary and tube she went into early menopause. Since then her habits have become weird lol. Sometimes at night she even gets up and starts washing floors for no reason, because she is bored ha ha.

Ooh...I've only had a tube removed but those stupid egg boxes are still functional. I've been trying to get a hysterectomy for a while but apparently I'm "too young", which is stupid because I'm not having more kids and I'm due to start crazy season anyway, so why not crack on with it?

Other than impending insanity, I prolly wouldn't notice most menopausal symptoms anyway. I'm always in pain, always tired, always hot, always grumpy about nothing in particular...living in an all-male household doesn't give much time for girl stuff :ROFL:

Set aside days for you, my wife often gets down and stressed so every so often she and our daughter or herself and her friends go for coffee and cookies days. Spend the day chatting and venting and having fun.

Doesn't have to be anythinf extravagant or expensive, just something for you that lets you relax and unwind from the week.

I see my daughter every week - we play badminton and then go to the pub to catch up. It's funny because I'm only 12 years older than her partner, so occasionally I'll take his side in things which winds her right up.

I think because I'm around the boys all the time due to home educating and being primary carer for the older one, taking a break isn't always viable. But very much appreciated when I do get one
 
Understandable entirely, but you should find a form of escape for the days u can't venture out. Even if it is something small like reading a book, or painting or something. Nobody is ever too old to start a new hobby, i myself sketch frequently. Have done since i was very young, even designed friends and families tattoos.
 
I love the fact that because I was wearing a plain dark grey t-shirt and not the Card Factory uniform due to the heat I was asked if I worked there. Despite working through a pallet of delivery when being asked.
