WC’11: Capcom Teases Big Announcements for Captivate 2011

As anyone in attendance would know, WonderCon is much more than just comics. There’s movies, television shows, anime….and of course video games! While we were there, Inside AX had a chance to ask a Capcom representative a few questions regarding their current lineup as well as any potential plans for Captivate 2011.
• Now that we have a release date scheduled for Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D set for June 2nd in Japan, does Capcom have any placeholders set for a tentative release period?
We’re currently aiming for a summer release date.

• Will we see Resident Evil: Revelations released before the end of the year?
TBD. That’s all we can say at the time.

• As someone who’s played Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, I along with a few fans have been disappointed that a few fan favorites weren’t included in the game (e.g. Mega Man, Frank West, Phoenix Wright). With DLC becoming such an instrumental part of the industry, has Capcom looked at the possibility of including more characters than just what’s been announced? I’m sure that Capcom has taken the fan polls into consideration.
There are a number of elements taken into consideration for each character chosen to be in the game – from move/playstyle “uniqueness” to their history within their respective brands – and fan demand is absolutely one of those elements. It should be noted that all of the fan polls are unofficial (and thus), but Capcom is definitely aware of, and keeping a close eye upon, all of them.

• In regards to the Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright crossover, will Capcom be abandoning the DS solely for the 3DS?
I believe that the Layton project is due out solely for the 3DS and not on the DS.

• Will Capcom ever be bringing the other installments of the Phoenix Wright series to the Android and/or iOS market?
The Capcom mobile team is always looking for opportunities. They’re seeing what exactly has worked in the past, but as of now nothing has been confirmed.

• Is the Capcom mobile team mostly going to be sticking with the iOS or are they looking into the Android Marketplace as well?
It’s something that they’re going to continue investigating as they’re always looking for new and exciting opportunities to branch out.

• With the NGP, 3DS and iOS all out, are there still plans to continue releasing titles on PSN/XBL marketplace or will we see a shift in focus?
There’s tons of plans for continued support of downloadable titles including the HD remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X this fall. We have a lot of big titles coming up, a few of which we’ll be unveiling at Captivate 2011 in Miami*, so stay tuned!
*editor’s note: There is a media embargo until next Tuesday regarding any official Captivate 2011 news. We will provide you with any big news regarding Capcom at that time.
