Prologue

Emperor be with us.

The impact of the drop pod hitting the ground rattled up through the steel frames and technologies making up the pod itself, and as the five doors slowly fell open, the battlefield was revealed. The sky was red with the glow of large, blazing fires. The ground littered in debris made up of the rubble of surrounding buildings and the bodies of many dead battle brothers. Streaks of glorious yellows and oranges split the sky as Space Marines and Chaos Marines fought. Bolters blasted, and Chainswords ripped. Daemons poured in from all directions, and Imperial Guardsman and their Space Marine superiors fought them off.

Thunderhawk Gunships flew overhead as Land Raiders and Predator tanks sped across the ruined city streets. Dreadnoughts destroyed enemy troops and Land Speeders zipped through the sky. Devastator Squads annihilated daemons and Chaos Marines with powerful heavy weapons, while Assault Squads came crashing down from above, landing in the midst of enemy squads and tearing them apart with powerful close combat weapons. Terminators, elite forces of the Emperor's armies, utterly destroyed any foe courageous or blind enough to stand in their way. Tactical Marines, the most abundant forces in any Space Marine army, raced across the battlefield, delivering swift blows to enemy forces, protecting survivors, and glorifying the Emperor's name through mighty shouts and battle-cries.

This was all seen in the blink of an eye as the drop pod opened it's doors for Julius and his squad of Tactical Space Marines. All ten of the men stepped out, Ultramarines symbol on their left shoulder pauldron, and Tactical Marine arrow protruding upward on their right pauldron, second company markings within. More drop pods could be seen crashing down in the distance, toppling half-destroyed buildings, and squashing non-observant foes. Gunfire started streaming in the direction of Julius and his men.

Yes, this was the battle for Thol IV. A conflict made up from two motives: To destroy the enemy, a constant reason of fighting between the Space Marine armies, and their Legions of traitorous brethren, and to obtain the Arcana of Thol, an artifact long thought to have been lost to the tragedies of the Horus Heresy ten millenniums ago.

"Courage and Honour!" Julius shouted before charging forward, Chainsword raised high on the right, and Bolt Pistol extended forward to the left, firing shots at stray enemies.

His nine men followed him close behind, Thessius pulverizing traitor marines with his Heavy Bolter and Pelos cleansing them with his Flamer. The victims of the attack, Word Bearers Chaos Space Marines, showed no sign of fear or retreat, but rather retaliated with a quick counter strike, already killing two of Julius' men. With a swift downward sweep, Julius allowed his Chainsword to chew through a Word Bearer, mangling his front until he was a lifeless pile of scrap on the ground. A screeching bolt hurtled toward Julius, fired from another Chaos Marine a short distance away. The bolt struck the left side of Julius' breast-plate, sinking into his body before bursting out of the other side.

Julius grunted, the pain from the shot remaining for a short time, but soon after fading away, as his blood clotted up almost immediately to seal the wound. Julius took aim, and fired his Bolt Pistol at the enemy marine, hitting his head. The traitor fell, slumping across a pile of debris. Julius brought his eyes up from the fallen enemy, staring all throughout the surrounding area. Waves of men on both sides swarmed into eachother, leaving piles of dead behind. Julius and his remaining seven charged forward, joining the ranks of the rest of the second, third and fourth companies.

Like a well oiled machine, they rolled through lines and lines of Chaos Marines and Daemons, laying waste to the scum. Chaos Lords and Company Captains stood on elevated platforms of debris and rubble, fighting eachother in close combat, shadows extended onto the many men below, shown by the light cast from the fires and stars above, in such a fashion, it would be worthy as a story to be told across the many planets controlled by humanity for millenniums to come.

The Word Bearers struggled to fend off the oppressive forces of the ever vigilant Ultramarines, Julius and his squad included. More Bolter shots fluttered the air, screaming as they passed over the heads of the courageous below, while others tore through the loyal marines in front.

Almost as an answer to the cries and pleas of the fallen, chaotic brethren below, portals to the warp opened above the planet, as jagged battle cruisers evilly showed themselves to the Emperor Worshiping hundreds below, bearing the symbols of Chaos and the Thousand Sons. Within minutes, Sorcerers and decorated Chaos Marines began warping to the planets surface, joining the forces of the Word Bearers. The battle's favor immediately tilted towards the enemies of the Emperor, as they struck back with the ferocity and power of a hundred-thousand lions.

Julius frowned upon this, before raising his Chainsword in the air once more, waving it higher than other Space Marine, and shouted, "For the Emperor!"
