Vergil's Downfall Trophy Guide

Chaos Raiden

Avid Gamer & Reviewer
* This is a Trophy guide for the game's DLC, Vergil's Downfall.

This is my first DLC Trophy guide. There are only Trophies in this game, and not all of them are terribly difficult to get. The only problematic Trophy in the game is the , which requires you to beat the DLC in Hell and Hell mode. This can be challenging and difficult for some players. What is actually hard in beating this mode will be the boss fight against Hollow Vergil, since he is relentless in that mode like the Vergil boss fight in the main game. However, there are certain ways to exploit his attacks.

The difference between Dante and Vergil is that Dante has more variety of moves and weapons compared to Vergil. However, Vergil himself has several unique skills. There are few things that you should know about Vergil in this DLC:

First of all, Vergil has the Yamato. Vergil can execute several different moves using the Yamato, such as Crosscut, Judgement Cut, and others. In comparison to DMC3 Vergil, this Vergil has more Yamato combos, but lack variety of weapons.

Secondly, Vergil has both Angel and Demon moves. Both of it has it's own uses, but are extremely useful in dispatching multiple enemies or fighting stronger foes. I highly advise to purchase his Demon Moves first since his Demon moves are extremely damaging. He can also use Angel Boost to travel to far platforms, as well as able to use Angel Lift or Demon Pull using his Summoned Swords. The main difference is that he can actually use Angel Lift and Demon Pull without interrupting your own attacks or movements.

Thirdly, Vergil has the Sword Illusion. He can use the swords to damage enemies from afar, or pull himself towards the enemy or pull the enemy to himself. Also, he is able to use Summoned Swords, Spiral Swords, Blistering Swords and Storm Swords like his original counterpart in DMC3. These three moves will allow you to raise Stylish rank quickly in Missions, and they are very useful in both offense and defense. The only downside is that these moves drain your Devil Trigger gauge, but can be offset easily since these moves allow you to recover some Devil Trigger energy per hit. I highly advise you to upgrade Spiral Swords first since this is one of the MOST useful move in this DLC that allows you to kill enemies quickly as well as raise Stylish rank to the maximum easily.

Fourthly, Vergil has Trick moves and Doppelganger. He can use Trick moves to dodge enemy attacks or get to enemies closer for you to kill them efficiently. He can also use the Trick move to act as a double jump. After completing Mission 5, Vergil will have access to Doppelganger as his Devil Trigger ability. Doppelganger allows you to summon a clone of Vergil, and he can attack with you in conjunction. You can switch the mode of the doppelganger, such as copy your own moves, or use certain movesets exclusively while Vergil attacks differently. Doppelganger also allows you to get high Stylish ranking easily in combat, and is useful to get SSS Ranks in all Missions.

Hope this will provide you good understanding on Vergil's game controls. Now here is the guide:

Estimated time to obtain all Trophies: 8 - 10 hours (depending on player's skills)

Difficulty: 1/10
How to get it: Unmissable Trophy. All you need to do is to defeat a Wisp in Mission 1. There is no special tips to beat the monster, except to use the Summoned Swords to change the monster to material form, and unleash hell on it.

You don't belong here

Description: Defeat an Imprisoner
Difficulty: 1/10
How to get it: Unmissable Trophy. All you need to do is to defeat an Imprisoner in Mission 4. Depending on which difficulty you are playing, this monster will be easy or challenging to you. I recommend to hit him hard using Spiral Swords and Devil moves. Be mindful that the monster is quite strong and dangerous, but should not be a problem to regular DMC players.

I'll try it your way for once

Description: Complete all missions in Vergil's downfall on the Nephilim difficulty with a SSS rank
Difficulty: 2/10
How to get it: You can only get this trophy by completing every Mission with SSS rank on Nephilim difficulty. Remember that it is IMPOSSIBLE for you to get SSS Rank in every Mission except Mission 5 if you do not have 100% completion rank in each Mission.

To get an SSS rank in a Mission, you need to get SSS rank for Combat, Time, and Completion. Since These missions focus on boss fights, you do not need to collect anything, and need only to focus on both Combat and Time to get SSS rank. To get high Combat rating, attack the enemies with high Stylish Ranking as much as possible, dodge whenever an attack is incoming, and defeat it as fast as possible. Spiral Swords and Doppelganger will allow you to get SSS in Combat rating easily, so I highly advise you to use them a lot, especially Spiral Swords. Remember to upgrade the Spiral Swords to the maximum for maximum effectiveness.

I need more power!

Description: Complete Vergil's downfall on Son of Sparda difficulty
Difficulty: 2/10
How to get it: Complete all Missions on Son of Sparda difficulty. You will unlock Son of Sparda mode after beating the DLC for the first time. Enemies are slightly more aggressive, and stronger enemies may be encountered early on in the DLC.

This is the power of Sparda!

Description: Complete Vergil's downfall on Vergil Must Die difficulty
Difficulty: 3/10
How to get it: Complete all Missions on Vergil Must Die difficulty. You will unlock Vergil Must Die mode after beating the Son of Sparda difficulty.. Enemies are more aggressive and stronger, and you will encounter more stronger enemies earlier in the DLC, such as Butchers and Witches. Be mindful that enemies will also use Devil Trigger if the battle goes on too long.

The helpful tips for this mode is to utilise Spiral Swords and Vergil's Demon moves as much as you can, since these moves can kill enemies quickly if used correctly, even Imprisoners and Wisps. Use items if you are in danger, since items are useful to restore Health or Devil Trigger gauge. Although using items will penalise your final ranking in the Mission, it is still possible for you to get SSS Rank in that mission if you have very high Combat rating.

Now I'm a little motivated!

Description: Complete Vergil's downfall on Heaven or Hell difficulty
Difficulty: 0/10
How to get it: Complete all Missions on Heaven or Hell difficulty. You will unlock Heaven or Hell mode after beating the Son of Sparda difficulty. Enemies will die in one hit, as well as yourself. You have three Gold Orbs, and you can be revived after dying for three times. One tip: Spiral Swords. If you have completed Vergil Must Die difficulty, use Super Vergil for infinite Spiral Swords.

NOTE: Remember that if you have purchased any Gold Orbs before, they WILL not be used in this mode.

You're not worthy as my opponent

Description: Complete Vergil's downfall on Hell and Hell difficulty
Difficulty: 5/10
How to get it: Complete all Missions on Hell or Hell difficulty. You will unlock Hell or Hell mode after beating the Heaven or Hell difficulty. Enemies will die in one hit, as well as yourself. You have three Gold Orbs, and you can be revived after dying for three times. The main difference between this mode and HoH mode is that enemies have regular hits.

All Missions except Mission 5 can be easily completed by using Super Vergil. Use Demon Moves and Spiral Swords to kill enemies efficiently and faster. The main obstacle would be Mission 5, since you need to fight Hollow Vergil.

In Mission 5, there are no checkpoints between different phases in the boss fight. If you have used up all of the Gold Orbs, you have to fight the boss from the start again. You can only die three times in the fight, so extra caution should be exercised when fighting this boss.

Practise using Doppelganger, Trick Up, Drive, Stomp, and Blistering Swords. I find that they are effective moves to beat Hollow Vergil easily, but I have to retry several times to beat him successfully. There are several strategies on how to beat him in HaH mode, but I have my own strategy in beating him. Here are the steps:

1) Quickly use Doppelganger and Blistering Swords on Vergil. Let Vergil come close to you, and use Trick Up.

2. a) If Hollow Vergil is doing a sword combo below you, do not attempt to attack him and instead use Angel Boost to avoid him. During the sword combo, he will not be staggered by your attacks.

2. b) If Hollow Vergil uses Judgement Cut below you, use Drive and Stomp to deal high damage. Pull him in if possible for additional combo.

2. c) You may also use Blistering Swords to damage Vergil, but do not rely on it too much as it may disrupt your concentration on evading Hollow Vergil's attacks.

2. d) If Hollow Vergil uses Blistering Swords, dodge it using Angel Boost or Trick. You can try to parry the Blistering Swords, but it is very risky.

3) Rinse and repeat until the first phase is over. Hollow Vergil will now use Storm Swords and a blue light pillar attack from the ground to hit you. Use Trick to avoid his attacks until this phase is over.

4) Repeat the same process in the second phase. Use Blistering Swords to lure Vergil, and also use Doppelganger.

5. a) If Hollow Vergil uses his version of Killer Bee, simply use Trick Up and then use Drive and Stomp from above.

5. b) If Hollow Vergil uses Rapid Slash or Solar Flare, dodge using Trick and Angel Boost. His Solar Flare + Aerial Flush combo is deadly, so dodge it. You can try to parry his Aerial Flush attack if you are confident.

5. c) You can try to pull Hollow Vergil close to you whenever he has finished an attack. However, his recovery time is very fast, so it is not reliable and very risky to do so.

6) Rinse and repeat until the second phase is over. Hollow Vergil will now use Storm Swords more faster and multiple blue light pillars attack from the ground to hit you. Use Trick to avoid his attacks until this phase is over.

7) Rinse and repeat the process of 4 to 5 until the boss is defeated.
