We all know that despite not actually using Arcana Medaglia, the process of opening gates to Demon world was still activated, though it was unstable.
My question is - is perhaps Trish coin more than just a fancy coin? Is it a magical item that functions similar to Arcana, in that it aids in opening gates?
Trish has been said to know some magic, and while the picture was most likely just a clever nod at the character (kinda like "Lucia" on bullet shells in DMC3), one could also think the coin was made by her. If it happened before something like her death, it would explain Dante's silent attitude, her absence and why he is so totally okay with going on what is most likely a suicide mission with very nasty consequences. Heck, it could explain why he kept playing with the coin in the first place.
Was perhaps the coin given to him so he could one day come back from mingling with demons? Dante tells Lucia to hold onto it. One can interpret it as a symbolic gift, but nothing is preventing a good writer from making it a key with which to bring Dante back. Maybe with Trish in hands after he rescued her.
