Hawkins is directing the Predator Reboot?

Shane Black, the director of Iron Man 3 and actor who played Hawkins in the original Predator will be directing the reboot of the Predator franchise.

My first thought was screaming NO!!!! But I really liked Iron Man 3 and since the reboot will have some original blood I will wait to see the final result.

How about that, the Predator's first kill will be directing the reboot. Who woulda thought?

Also yes I agree, Rated R FTW, no Robocop remake PG-13 horseshit!!

Why no? As much as I love Predator it's something that could use a bit of fuel and Shane Black on board? F*** yea. And not for Iron Man 3.

This is the dude who did Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang which was freaking awesome and they're not gonna remake it with a PG-13 rating.

It would be nice to see Predator going back to a more horror oriented tone.

The reason my first thought being NO should have been obvious, the majority of reboots today are flat out awful, both in movies and video games.
However reading that Shane Black is involved gave me hope for this.
But really I don't think Predator needs a reboot, another sequel would have been fine, another movie about people fighting the Predators on another planet or another hero vs the Predator on earth would have been perfectly fine.
I just don't think rebooting the original film is a good idea, but the big moment of hatred will be if they show a redesigned Predator, it will not be accepted if it's anything but the normal Predator.

Or maybe make a Predator VS Aliens VS Giant Alien Bugs (Starship Troopers)

I just want another good Predator movie that also brings it more back to its horror roots.

Reboot or sequel, I don't care. Just a good Predator movie please.

Good news that they aren't opting for a total reboot & hope it does end up an "inventive" sequel & not a simple Hollywood cash grab.

First I'm hearing about it.

And I agree with @Chancey289 , Don't care if it's a reboot, or a sequel. So long as it's good.

Also there are plenty of good remakes/reboots

  • Batman Begins
  • Rise of the Planet of the Apes
  • The Amazing Spider-Man
  • Dredd
  • The Blob
  • The Thing
  • The Fly
  • Star Trek
  • King Kong (Peter Jackson)
  • Godzilla (Gareth Edwards)
  • And I haven't seen it myself, but I hear a lot of people say Casino Royale is pretty good

I agree.
The Predator character is already established, it leaves room to add to it.
So why reboot it.
Generally rebooting would give them more options.

However, in Predator's case, they don't really need to reboot. All three films thus far have had their own cast of characters, and even their own Predator.

The only thing being a reboot would do, is they wouldn't have the events of the original film to reference (Both Predator 2 and Predators have had at-least one character who was aware or had heard of the events of the first movie)

It's kinda like rebooting The Crow (Which they are planning on doing), The Crow has several direct-to-video sequels all with their own Crow character and cast of characters (First was a guy who was murdered with his fiance, second a young father and his son, and I think the third was a young man executed and framed for his girlfriends murder) rebooting The Crow really just allows them to use the original characters' names more then anything, pretty much the only thing that will separate it from the sequels.

Meh. I could take it or leave it. Reboot or don't. Honestly, the continuity is so beyond me and it doesn't bother me enough to make the effort to go know the difference. I also think people were too dismissive of the Rodriguez movie, as full of cheese moments as it was I thought it was bloody awesome!

Yes but it's not really necessary to reference any of the other movies at all.
They can completely ignore them & continue building on what's already established.
They can place a Predator movie on a completely different world if necessary.
....Wouldn't a reboot basically be just that then? If the other movies would be ignored anyway

Yea, Predators was Predator 3 & didn't reference Alien vs. Predator or Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem
It does mention the first Predator movie & mimics a few things but doesn't reboot everything as
They said in interviews that both Alien vs Predator movies were going to be non-canon to Predators. They wanted Predators to be seen as a direct sequel to the first Predator movie (Though not necessarily ignore Predator 2), and they felt some of the weapons the Predators used in AVP were a bit too cartoonish
it did try to reboot the Predator character with the Berserker & Tracker Predator types.

But here's the thing. It's not a character, it's a race.
It's like how they always go the extra effort to make each of the Predator's look, similar so you can tell they're all the same species, but have their own features (and no, not just their armor is designed differently, the facial features were designed differently)
I wouldn't call the Super Predators rebooting the 'character', they're simply the bad bloods, or a different clan of the same race, or heck they were compared to wolves vs dogs, they may be a cousin race of sorts.

If anything, that's expanding the mythos more then anything

Whoa now. That wasn't a reboot attempt at all. The Berserker and the other Super Predators are just a different type. As Roland himself put it, like dogs and wolves.

The "standard" Yautja are still there, they just added another type, in "civil war" with the standard one. It was a welcome addition to the mythos, and that's why I want this film to be a sequel to build upon that basis, and I'm happy that it is indeed a sequel. If it will dig into the Super Predators/standard Predators conflict, I dunno, I hope it will.
