The lack of lock-on isn't the problem

It's the enemy placements. I have watched plenty of walkthroughs of past DMC games and almost everyone never cycle through the enemies they have locked on to. I can't really say for sure but if I recall correctly, the mephistos in DMC4 hardly spawn together with ground-based enemies. The air-based enemies in DmC are meant to annoy you but the air-based enemies in DMC4 are just as capable as other ground-based enemies.

Even if a lock-on did exist in DmC, I highly doubt that people will manually cycle their lock-on targets with the right stick. They would just get close to the flying enemies and only then will they press the lock-on button which isn't much different from what DmC players do to deal with flying enemies.

Theis is just my take on the subject...so yeah.

The hard lock on is not so much on focusing on targets because i have always targeted the wrong enemy in DMC/DmC games but i just don't care who i lock on too, i'll just beat the **** out of whoever.

I'll miss the hard lock as much as i miss not being able to taunt. When i'm not attacking, i like to have my guns at the ready and not running around in circles. All that is kinda cosmetic but to me it feels like its missing something.

Also some people claim that having hard lock will automatically increase the move set. But i believe the move set could be easily increased with more button configurations.

Forward; Forward O = Throwing rebellion / or that Dance move
" ; " ;Box = Twosome time / or The focused shooting in gunslinger mode

yada yada Angel mode and Demon mode with same inputs. I'm telling you, there is a lot of combinations that could work and not need a hard lock.

I dunno. I can get used to a lack of a lock-on, but I can never bring myself to really like it.

I really don't have much of a problem with no lock on in this game. It does do a very exceptional job of picking out the most likely targets you wish to attack especially when you jump or face your camera just upwards just a tad it goes for the air enemies. You can, like other dmc games, use the joystick click to switch targets even if it doesn't show the lock. You can always just shoot once to see where it changed too and wont have to once you get used to it.

I don't know if many people use both joysticks like I do but it increases the selectively of the in game lockon incredibly. You don't have to always use it but just tapping it once or twice to face a better direction can makes a world of a difference.

I do have to say I have had many issues with fighting in the air and trying to pull myself to a flying enemy that was very close to me but it decides to pick one that is 20 feet below in instead and pulls me to the ground which is just weird. That is my only complaint since it makes no sense compared to how well it usually works.

Nah, the lock-on is more about directional imputs and lining yourself against your enemy, like some say, in a similar way of a 2D fighter.

Other than that, the demon pull/angel lift is what really suffered from the lack of lock-on since it's all about reaching your enemy without the need to walk/run to it.
In my case, since I use ebony and ivory a lot more than the other guns, I just shoot them right before using the ophion, so I can make sure I'll hit the right enemy.
For the other demon/angel weapons, just moving the analog in the direction you want to hit is enough.

To be honest, I've sort of made a lock-on system for myself. I have had no problems with the lack of lock on, well I've had maybe a few unfair deaths. But I've learned to deal with it. Here's my version of a lock-on, I position the camera at the enemy I want to grapple/shoot, and it usually works fairly well. But hey, that's just me.

For me it isn't but also it is. I don't like the running around when fighting an enemy. It reminded me too much of KH and I hated running around to dodge enemies with that game. However, I'm given more freedom with the lack of lock on and am able to improvise. so I get the wrong enemy. I'm a big boy. I can improvise and think on my feet. Unlike a lot of other DMC players apparently.:/

For the most part the Auto-lock on has performed well for Me, seldom lets Me down. Only tends to struggle when the aerial enemy I want is at the back of a crowd of grounded enemies.
