The battle/level system

788Masri

I'm just some guy who really like Devil May Cry
its been established for a while that rather than demons crossing into our world, theyre pulling Dante into limbo. now they do this by either A: demon camera, or B: boss battle. now my question is how are levels supposed to work. is every level going to start with you being spotted by a demon camera?if it does is the only objective destroying said camera? in previous games the point was to get from one point to the next. while you casually took down the demon army between them. i dont see how the story will work if were stuck in a cycle of get caught, escape. get caught escape . welcome to level 12 and repeat. does any1 have any ideas???

I remember in The Fight, there was some radio announcer calling Dante a terrorist who attacked the Virility Factory.

So I think many of the objectives will be strategic attacks/sabotage. I don't think there's repetitiveness in store here.

i like that idea but if they are strategic how does that work in a dmc game. i dont imagine dante being to big on the stealth and we need to consider that the media isnt trust worthy so it could have been a demon who attacked virility (or one got loose) and theyre just blaming him. im just wondering here

I don't think it's going to constantly be a demon camera that brings him in....and I don't think boss fights are going to do it either. It could just be random instances in which demons could find him is all.

Also, I highly doubt that they're going to do a stealth section in the game; that'd just be ridiculous.

Stealth is pretty ridiculous. Even if they were to give Dante a mission to "stealthily destroy some factory" I doubt he would ever even consider doing it that way. lol And the game is an action hack-and-slash game; no stealth, straight up ass kicking.

As for the levels/missions themselves, I'm sure they are going to be like the other DMCs. You have an objective that will probably require you to solve some puzzles and kill an avalanche of enemies in order to accomplish. The whole camera thing... ugh... I think we might not see a lot of that, actually. In the demo, Dante destroys all the cameras in the area and then more demons come up. Once he defeats these then the path is re-opened for you. So the cameras are not necessarily what blocks your way, it would also be like in the old DMCs where you just kill all the demons in the area and the red string thingies go away. I think the idea of the cameras was to add a little puzzle solving for that level (and some platforming gameplay in order to get to them) but I'm about 100% sure they are not one very relevant aspect of the game.

LOOL just had a picture of Kat telling dante to sneak into virility and be smashes in through the window.

i hope they dont overuse the whole camera thing, or at least make it a little less obvious or something or slowly faze them out as demon attacks become more frequent. . and just a quick question. in the first trailer we saw dante struggle with some mental blockage/scarring. does anyone know whether theyre still doing that?

its possible. In the first trailer they actually hinted at most things were seeing now. I remember reading the paper that was shown in the first trailer having dante in for "vandalism" and something else, if im correct. I'm also guessing by that point in the game his hair started changing.

What may have happened is his demon side began taking over, for who knows what reason, though this is just a crack pot theory i just finished coming up with. So the first trailer seems like it still holds things were seeing even now only different.

i see so rather than being caused by a truama or some latent mental programming attempts. Dante is having his angel and demon sides face off inside him. i like that idea.

which could lead to one, coughhisdemonsidecough, overtaking the other. but that aside i imagine that having his two side face off must be hella painful.

By "having both sides fight each other" what exactly are you guys trying to say?

Like Dante just skipping his way down the park while picking flowers and suddenly feeling huge pain out of the blue and starts going all crazy all over the place? Or something like the doppelganger comes out of him and start fighting him or something?

I really don't see much of that happening to tell the truth. If anything, his struggle back in the first trailer was probably a metaphor explaining how he is been caught by the demons who constantly keep him under surveillance. I never understood the "what is your name?" part... it was more to make a cool ending sequence where Dante just goes "My name is Dante!" and fanboys blow up across the land.

I think its going to be just like what we've seen. You run through the city/area solving puzzles and the demons you fight as you go along. But each time you fight demons your pulled into Limbo. Yeah it will get boring and repetive but thats normal DMC game funtions.

I think adding different areas will make up for the boring feeling of it. So far we've got an amusement park, an urban area, some factory, and that secret location that looks like it is in another dimension or something. If they do their job right and don't do what DMC3/4 did regarding atmosphere (they were quite repetitive, especially DMC4 when you actually traverse back the same places) then I think we've got a lot to look forward to.

At least Limbo is quite weird and unpredictable, so the transitions from one area into Limbo will be interesting.

dont forget the enviroment within the areas, the urban area also included the church. Who knows we may even see the hospital, from the reveal trailer.

I don't see stealth being in this game.Mostly cause it's hack n' slash game, and most hack n' slash don't have stealth except Ninja Gaiden and even that wasn't much stealth. The camera's are probably just outside in the city while in other areas there's other ways of getting out of the areas. I'm just glad this Devil may Cry has more places to go instead of just being in one castle the whole damn game. It feels like DMC2 and DMC4 were the only DMC games that actually traveled around to different areas except just castles this, castle that! If I have to see one more castle, Im gonna flip out!

Funny: The radio announcer says that in the same scene, where Dante is actually heading for the Virility Factory, isn't he?
Either they jumbled up the trailers, or Dante does belong to some kind of anti-demon organisation, that already hit the Factory once, before Dante went to finish it off.

yeah, i was also confused by this because in the fight trailer the guy says that dante has already attacked the virility factory, but in the captivate demo the mysterious guy says dante and kat are on their way to the virility factory. :P maybe you're right maybe they either jumbled up the audio or they are going back to the virility factory.

no, it may be easier to think of the two as chaos and order. bearing in mind that the worst attrocities in history where done by order to fulfill some fantasy. my point being that when his angel side is dominating dante becomes cold and vicous, perhaps seeing demons that arent there. while when his demon side is dominating his attacks become ridiculously overpowered causeing massive damage with a single swing and his rage to increase exponentially. so he pretty much rampages.

I honestly think Dante is going to take the fight to them and find a way to enter the demon world of his own accord. Or at least he might be able to, later on in the game.

that could be one of the earlier levels finding an artifact that allows him to enter a certain place in limbo to strike key blows on the demon advance

Perhaps at some point the demons start to come from Limbo to our world, the reason why they trap Dante into Limbo is because they don't want to reveal themselves to normal people... atleast not yet.
And didn't Tam mention something about demons pulling the societys strings behind the scenes, so maybe they have "agents" all around our world. And then there's (fallen?) angels wonder what they'll do with Dante...
