did it NEED to be there? for gameplay purposes, there's a lot to love about it. it's also worked in thematically very well imo. in a strange way it gives the game a dick donner superman 2 vibe with the whole "i'm not human, but i kinda wanna help these poor lil weaklings" thing. however, it isn't something that is as big a deal narrative wise. it's worked in as best as it could, but there are times that it will feel tacked on to distance itself from the previous game. just wanted to get your thoughts on my thoughts...thoughts everywhere...minds....turning...jelly...cream donut

I agree with your thoughts as they pretty much reflect my own on the matter.
But was it necessary? Nope, story-wise not much, but I suppose an angelic weapon does hold more power than a simple human weapon and they did have to explain that game-play mechanic somehow.

Its a missed oppurtunity storywise and as for gameplay, I dont think i needed the justification for switching weapons as I dont need one for the styles so ... eh:whistle:

A lot of untapped potential, and overall it's nice that a reference was made in some way to the fact that they really do exist. However, to an extent, like Z218 said, they totally could have gone without mentioning angels in order to justify a set of weapons that could be switched to. I mean, granted it makes it a bit more uniform and intuitive to a degree, but the mechanic would totally work without it being an "angel" or "demon" thing.

Although, it is nice to see the concept of justifying things through the narrative being so consistently pervasive :p

Honestly, I would've enjoyed the angelic presence more if it didn't lead to that ****ing nephilim prophecy.
Disregarding anything involving Sparda, I hated that thing because Mundus was the official 'big bad' of the original continuity, and for this game in particular, as much as I hate to admit it, he was ****ing awesome.
Keep in mind, in the original game, Dante was a full fledged expert demon hunter, and still ultimately couldn't KILL Mundus.

That's back when he was a walking cliche. Now you make him cooler than most of the villains in the original (Tied with Arkham/Jester), and kill him off in the first game? And to a version of Dante who is practically a rookie at that point in time.
That was (for me at least) a major let down.
So I'm really stuck between options 2 and 3, because I loved the idea, hated the execution
