Stuff I don't like

Right so before anyone starts wishing death upon me I will say that I really enjoy this game, however there are several things I believe could have been done better, or at least changed.

Firstly I think compared to the only other DMC game I've played (4) this game seems extremely easy, here are a few reasons why:

  • Even the hardest boss in this game (Mundus' Spawn IMO) is way easier than the easiest boss back in DMC4 (Bael or Sanctus).
  • The style penalty for repeating moves is tiny, even on the first mission on my first playthrough (literally first time playing the game) it was easy to reach a SSS on the boss.
  • Minor death penalty, you lose 10% score for dying? You died! In DMC4 you lost all style points upto your continue point as well as a 30% reduction.
  • Any mode is completable with continues. I haven't started Hell and Hell but I can assume that there will really be no challenge.
  • Ridiculously easy secret missions. Easily one shot all of them except 3, none of which were combat based.
  • There is nothing that requires good timing in this game, the closest thing is dodging which has a massive window.
That covers most of the stuff I dislike, other stuff includes the bosses significantly easier than random groups of enemies.

The awful damage that the angel weapons do becomes annoying. I know they are supposed to be for AOE, but often you have to use them on a single target, and even if you use every move from both weapons, without demon dodge you will have to start repeating moves. I think it would be better if blue/red enemies could also take damage from rebellion.

No lock-on. I still don't understand why. Is it to increase immersion? I mean they have 2 roll buttons, they could have even added in a lock on button that didn't have any moves connected to it, that way players that want it could use it. I hate having 5 harpies flying around and having to dodge and being unable to target the same one again with my guns. Doing the moves when you double tap forward or have to press 2 buttons at once are a pain.

And finally, the most unbelievably annoying thing in this game is the absolutely ridiculous amount of waiting. There are cut scenes every few minutes, even if you skip them it still wastes time loading and you can't skip them instantly, and there are those that can't be skipped.

I'll add in a few gameplay related points I think have been done well. I like they got rid of that style system, using the D-Pad on a 360 controller is awful, and now if it registers up as well when I press left then it still changes the weapon properly, and the only adverse side-effect is changing gun. Generally well-done enemies, some I feel like they slow down the speed of the game a bit but for the most part they are done well.

On the whole, probably going to be the best game I've played this year, and best game I've played in years.

Please only reply with gameplay-related comments, whether it is positive or negative. We have plenty of threads already talking about the story/style/hair colour.

Also I'd like to hear if anyone agrees/disagrees with my opinions and why.

I agree with the bosses being too easy and the penalty for dying being to forgiving.

The only time i feel the Angel weapons are too weak is when fighting a Angel Rage on DMD.

Spam Full charged roundtrip, Tornado, Full charged Raze, and Prop Shredder to get it over with ASAP.

All the other stuff you mentioned doesn't bother me.

I don't like

Color coded enemies
Vergil
not much sword moves
not much sword play cutscenes

Other then those it was a ball.^_^

A variaty of more moves for Rebellion would have been nice, but I can imagine they did get limited because of Itsuno's directive of NO HARD LOCK ON. Having the "heavy/Launcher" attack button be some kind of styles activation like teh old days for each weapon would have been nifty. Something to allow for more Gunslinger attacks would have been epic, i missed Twosome Time heavily, and teh concept art showed something for Kablooy that I wante to see in game, when it opens up for what I assume was some kind of charged attack ala Nightmare Beta and Artemis.

Firstly I think compared to the only other DMC game I've played (4) this game seems extremely easy, here are a few reasons why:Play DMC3 for a better comparison, it's much harder.

  • Even the hardest boss in this game (Mundus' Spawn IMO) is way easier than the easiest boss back in DMC4 (Bael or Sanctus).Excuse the put, but I did wail on the baby boss. My only trouble was Vergil on hell or hell mode.
  • The style penalty for repeating moves is tiny, even on the first mission on my first playthrough (literally first time playing the game) it was easy to reach a SSS on the boss.Yep, the game does give out top ranking S like a pez dispenser.:P But I suppose that's because the game is also for new players.
  • Minor death penalty, you lose 10% score for dying? You died! In DMC4 you lost all style points upto your continue point as well as a 30% reduction.I would have liked a harsher penalty, but again, I'm assuming they did this for new players.
  • Any mode is completable with continues. I haven't started Hell and Hell but I can assume that there will really be no challenge.Hell and hell is made easier by the 'super Dante' perk, and the only trouble I had was Vergil.
  • Ridiculously easy secret missions. Easily one shot all of them except 3, none of which were combat based. This is the first DMC where I have finished all secret missions. A little harder would have been nice.

The awful damage that the angel weapons do becomes annoying. I know they are supposed to be for AOE, but often you have to use them on a single target, and even if you use every move from both weapons, without demon dodge you will have to start repeating moves. I think it would be better if blue/red enemies could also take damage from rebellion.Coloured enemies do take damage from rebellion, but only while in trigger mode.

Doing the moves when you double tap forward or have to press 2 buttons at once are a pain.It would have been better with an angel evade and a demon guard like royal guard style. Also, for the no lock on, it was fine, except on higher modes where I was swarmed. I found pointing the camera helped though.

And finally, the most unbelievably annoying thing in this game is the absolutely ridiculous amount of waiting. There are cut scenes every few minutes, even if you skip them it still wastes time loading and you can't skip them instantly, and there are those that can't be skipped. This is a more story driven game, and it has only a few more cutscenes that DMC4. As far as I know, all are skippable.

I won't be using super dante for my run on HAH.

I understand that not everyone is good at video games, but that is what different difficulty levels are for, yet they are all easy.

The game is way more stop and start than DMC4, this game has many many cutscenes in the middle of missions, and what about the mission where you just walk for the first 3 minutes.

I agree there. I think the harder modes at least should have been a challenge for players who have played previous DMCs

The game is way more stop and start than DMC4, this game has many many cutscenes in the middle of missions, and what about the mission where you just walk for the first 3 minutes.DMC4 also has cutscenes in the middle of missions, like enemies appearing and Nero aquiring upgrades for his arm. The only thing that got me in DmC was the mission at HQ with Kat. I ws hoping for more fighting there, and the trade mission which was more like a glorified cutscene/ QTE. Agaian, I would have liked more combat in that mission, but I understand that it was for the purpose of the story moving along.

my only complaints: Demon Dodge is insanely broken and as someone said it could have been replaced by something similar to royal guard, with three perfect guards guards giving the adrenaline boost thing (ive been saying over and over again lol) and like you said the mission ranking system is pretty bad, i think once i died about 4 times and still got a SS on a mission -.-

I would add no Two-some time. That was one of my favorites, if not my most favorite move in the entire move set of dante. It's not really as useful as some other moves and techniques, but damn, it looked so cool, and made you feel like a total badass.

I do like the addition of inverse rainstorm though. Not really many uses to ir as well, but hey, Devil May Cry games are about style before anything else right?
