Chapter One: Sick To Death
It was dark. It was very dark. And colder than the iciest parts of the Universe. It was all over. They had failed. As the ship was sinking beneath extreme depths, she took the last breath of her oxygen, crying in her mind. A little light inside her chest, slowly fading away… It went out, and so did the World she knew.
“I suppose you want another chance” came the voice of her Death.
“Yes…yes please” she replied, crying more tears inside her mind.
“Very well then”.
And then back to the very beginning of her journey, the clock turned back. All those years, reversing. All the memories, never happened. She woke, jolting herself out of bed. Staring at her hands, slowly touching the soft skin on her face. As if she had never been underneath that water at all. The coldness she had felt, whilst drowning, was gone now. No more sinking. It felt like she was new. Like she was, but never was. She felt more alive, than when she was first alive. And it made her smile.
“Pssst… Are you in there?” came a whisper. She answered the door, inviting the man inside.
“Sit next to me. No, closer. I want to hold you” she said, grabbing him and pulling him into her arms.
She could touch him once more. Her love. Her everything.
“Are you crazy?” the man said, anger building up in him.
“What the hell do you think you are doing, Alexia?” he shouted, storming out of her room.
He didn’t know how she felt just yet. What was inside her heart for him. What she was thinking just before those last breaths she took. It was always him she thought.
‘How could I be so silly?’ she thought to herself. Of course Lucio didn’t know how she felt about him. They were only on the ship for two days now, and there journey had hardly begun. ‘I guess this is why it brought me here. It could have been any time or place, but why here and now?” suddenly concluding what it was that was so significant. She rushed down the large corridor; finally leaping into the elevator, and knocking into Lucio as she did.
“Argh, Alexia. Damn, what is with you today?” Lucio said, still angry at her.
She made her puppy dog face at him, which he almost smiled at.
‘I know why you are going down there Lucio. And I am going to stop you’ she was speaking in her mind.
Lucio left the elevator first, and stopped, staring at Alexia.
“Alexia, I am extremely busy. Could you please leave me alone?” he said, wanting her to go.
Alexia just stood still, staring back at him. She pulled the eyes again.
“Lucio, I really like you. Can I watch what you are doing?” she asked, sweetly.
“Urgh, fine. If you really want to watch me do some boring work, then go ahead” Lucio grumbled, turning towards the door and grabbing the handle. He twisted it, and let himself inside. Alexia followed him, with devilish eyes behind his back.
As soon as he turned, she smiled innocently.
“Sit there, and don’t say a word” Lucio commanded her, as if she were a puppy. Perhaps he got the impression from the amount of times she had pulled the puppy eyes.
Lucio rummaged through a set of drawers, grabbing a lot of clutter. A lot of metal in his hand. Nothing seemed too extraordinary, or even valuable. Just a pile of cheap metal items. He started hammering away at them. Smashing and banging. Fiddling and screwing parts. Eventually after a short wait, he held something in his hand. He grinned.
“Alexia, what is this” he asked, she looked confused.
“Lucio, you created it. How am I meant to know?” she replied, glaring at the metallic creation with confusion.
“It, Alexia, is a heart…” he said. And he paused to watch her reaction.
“A heart, Lucio? A metal heart?” she said, playing stunned. But in her mind, she knew all about this. She knew what Lucio had created, and she was going to destroy it.
“Alexia. I am creating evil. As I told you once, my mind was meant to create evil things. If you take the true definition of the word create, it means to truly make something. And I hadn’t made a thing. Until I created this, Alexia. The items I used I found on my other journeys through planets. I gathered all of these items, eventually combining them together. And with a little help, I made this. Implanted into anything, means it will work like an evil machine of my command. I‘m like a God” he laughed at his own imagination.
Alexia shot out of the chair, knocking Lucio to the ground. She snatched the device, and tried to run, but Lucio grabbed her by the foot and pulled her to the ground. He picked himself up, and pinned her down to the spot. “Look at me. Hand me my device Alexia, and I won’t hurt you at all” he said, and she turned her head around. Her eyes met his dark, angrier pupils. He stared at her, with rage in his mind.
“Alexia, please. Hand me it. You know in my heart that I don’t want to hurt you. I just want to do this, please. They know how it happened. And if I can just get a little more help, I can find who did it” Lucio started to explain, but she had heard it before.
Lucio raised his fist to the ceiling, and struck the ground beside her.
“Lucio, don’t cry baby” Alexia said, holding him in her arms.
“I just want them to die. To all die for what they did to me. They ruined my life. They ruined my home. They ruined me” Lucio cried, bursting into more tears.
“I will help you. But not like this. Never like this. It isn’t you” she said, “Look at me, Lucio” she added.
He sniffled, and lifted his head. His tears strolling down the sides of his now damp face.
“You will?”
“Yes. And then we will have our own justice” she told him, hugging him tightly.
The night came to an end, with the two lying next to each other in bed. They had been cuddling for hours.
“You know Alexia, you’re the best part of me I feel” Lucio told her, kissing her soft lips.
“I know Lucio. I know. Get some rest. Tomorrow will be tiring, I feel”
He cuddled up to her, drifting off soundly. Several hours later and she still couldn’t sleep.
‘I stopped what Lucio had made. But can I stop him getting hurt?’
She couldn’t think straight. Him holding her was the greatest moment of her life. And in less than twenty four hours, she would never see him again. It was Heaven and Hell to feel his touch. Good and bad. And she cried. Silently, to the other side of him. She cried for the whole night. Until he woke, and she was gone…
“Alexia?…”
